his Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B22 01 15 dated February 2016.
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before
customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please
perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
SUBJECT

Service Action: Replace the Motor Mount Screws
MODEL

I01 (i3 and i3 REx)
SITUATION

A sudden loss of traction while accelerating sharply may damage the engine mounts.
AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves certain I01, i3 and i3 REx vehicles produced October 1, 2013 to
November 6, 2015.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked
either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key
Reader.
PROCEDURE

Only properly trained personnel, who have passed all applicable technical training courses, should
perform any maintenance or repairs on any Hybrid or Electric Vehicle. Work performed by
unqualified persons may result in severe injury or damage to the vehicle. Additional information
may be found in REP 61 00… Observe safety instructions when handling electric vehicles.
NOTE:
z

Perform all necessary repairs outlined in SI B22 01 15 if any damage is found to the motor
mounts, screws or motor mount supports during this procedure.

z

i3: Only perform the following steps on the the left side drive mount (wheel removal, fender
liner, etc.).

z

i3 Rex: Perform the procedure on left and right side drive mounts. Complete one side at a
time (do not remove both mount screws at the same time).

z

Left and right side mount screws have different tightening torques!

Support the drive unit with a suitable lifting tool.
Remove the rear wheels and rear inner fender liners. Refer to Repair Instruction 51 71 041

Important! During installation, the
bore holes of support bearing and
transmission mounting bracket must
absolutely fall in line precisely.
For alignment of bore holes use a
suitable tool (1), for example, a drill
bit with 11 mm diameter shank.

Replace the screw for the left side
motor mount (1).
Tightening: Jointing torque 96 Nm,
angle of rotation 120°

(i3 Rex only) Replace the screw for the
right side motor mount (1).
Tightening torque: Jointing torque 96
Nm, angle of rotation 45°

Both i3 and i3 REx will need to be programmed after repairs.
Program and code the entire vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P (3.57.2 or higher).
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do
not have the latest software.
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).

Vehicle Programming and Encoding
If a control module was working properly and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization,
please claim this additional work with the applicable KSD2 labor operations under the defect code
listed above.
The diagnosis and repair of vehicles “arriving” with failed control modules or stored faults which
will cause them to fail during programming cannot be claimed under the defect code listed in this
bulletin.
Other Repairs
If other eligible and covered work is performed “prior” to programming and coding the vehicle,
claim this work with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
