INFORMATION

MINI USA, a division of BMW of North America, LLC (“MINI USA”) is extending the limited warranty for
the:
1.

Power steering pump (EHPS),

2.

Cooling fan, and its

3.

Auxiliary wiring harness
On the above-referenced MY 2002 to 2005 MINI vehicles to:

13 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, as determined from the original in-service date.

This “component-specific” limited
warranty extension applies to defects
in materials and workmanship and is
subject to the applicable New
Passenger Car Limited Warranty’s
exclusions and limitations, in addition
to the vehicle and coverage eligibility
requirements.

This bulletin is notice of a “limited warranty extension.” This is NOT a notice of a Recall or Service
Action.

There is no immediate repair required unless the MINI vehicle is currently experiencing this problem.
This extended limited warranty does not apply to the following:
z

Hydraulic steering gear assembly

z

Oil carrier (tank)

z

Supply hose (intake manifold) and return pipe

z

Pressure hose assembly and set pipe, or

z

MINI vehicles produced on or after February 10, 2005

Customer Notification Letter – VIN and Component-specific Warranty Extension
Even though this is NOT a Recall, MINI USA has sent VIN-specific customer notification letters. A sample
letter is attached.
Eligible MINI Vehicles
To assist you in identifying the eligible vehicles, the DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry has been updated with
the “Vehicle Comment” shown below:
MINI USA has extended the Electro-Hydraulic Power-Assist Steering Pump
(EHPS) and Cooling Fan warranty up to a total of 13 years or 150,000 miles,
whichever occurs first, starting from an eligible vehicle's original in-service date.
Please see Service Information bulletin M01 01 13 for more information.
Note: Always check the DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry “Vehicle Comments” and the “Repair History
(Claims)” sections first, before performing any repairs.
SITUATION

On affected vehicles, the electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) pump can fail.
PROCEDURE

If the EHPS pump or cooling fan fails during the extended warranty coverage period, perform the
appropriate repair to replace the power steering pump, together with the fan and, if necessary, the
auxiliary wiring harness when a poor or no electrical contact-related issue exists.
Do not perform this repair as a preventive measure.
For the repair instructions, refer to REP 32 41 030.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

The Electro-Hydraulic Power-Assist Steering Pump (EHPS) and Cooling Fan warranty has been extended to
13 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. It applies to “eligible US-specification MINI vehicles” that are
registered, operated and repaired by an authorized MINI dealer in the United States (including Puerto Rico).
The existing limited warranty coverage for all other parts has not changed.
Ineligible vehicles or the diagnosis and repair of other unrelated issues are not covered under this limited
warranty extension.
Should the Electro-Hydraulic Power-Assist Steering Pump (EHPS), cooling fan and auxiliary wiring harness
fail again, these components are covered by the remaining portion of the extended limited warranty coverage
period.

Towing
For MINI vehicles requiring towing for the issue outlined in this Service Information bulletin, which are not
eligible for towing coverage under the MINI Roadside Assistance Program, claim the related towing expense
under Defect Code 32 41 90 12 00, as follows:

Prior Customer Pay Repairs
If a customer requests reimbursement for a previously performed repair, please follow the procedure below:
Review the customer-pay invoice (MINI dealer or independent repair shop) to ensure it addresses the issue
described in this Service Information bulletin.
Reimburse the customer (labor and parts).
Submit the customer-paid repair expense under Defect Code 32 41 90 12 00, as follows:
