SUBJECT

Reduced Engine Power with Misfiring and Valvetronic Shutdown

With the B38M, B46M, B48M and B48O engines
SITUATION

The engine misfires with the engine power reduced, and a Check Control Message (CCM) “Drive Faulty;
Drive at moderate speed” is displayed.
Various misfire faults and the following Valvetronic fault codes are stored in the DME:
• Fault 134A02: Valvetronic servomotor: Overloading
• Fault 135302: Valvetronic servomotor: Switch-off, Component protection
CAUSE

DME software error
PROCEDURE

Do not replace any parts.
Program the vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P (3.56.2 or higher).
Target integration level: F056-15-07-503 or higher

Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
Always connect a MINI approved battery charger/power supply (SI M04 08 09).
WARRANTY INFORMATION

Covered under the terms of the MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty or the MINI NEXT Certified
Pre-Owned Limited Warranty.
This repair is also covered by the terms of the Federal and/or the State-specific adoption of the California
Emissions Warranty (dependent on the vehicle’s model year, state of registration and its inclusion on the
“model-specific” list of covered components) that applies to the MINI model(s) listed.

Vehicle Programming and Encoding
If a control module was working properly and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization, please
claim this additional work with the applicable KSD2 labor operations under the defect code listed above.
The diagnosis and repair of vehicles “arriving” with failed control modules or stored faults which will cause
them to fail during programming cannot be claimed under the defect code listed in this bulletin.
Other Repairs
If other eligible and covered work is performed “prior” to programming and coding the vehicle, claim this
work with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
