SUBJECT

FC 481B05: EKP, Pump Insufficient Speed

SITUATION

The customer may complain about any of the following:
• Reduced engine performance when driving
• Engine jerking/bucking
• Engine no-start condition
The Check Control messages “Fuel pump/drive with care” and “Engine fault/reduced power” are displayed in
the CC. The fault code 481B05 (Pump speed/fuel pump control insufficient) is stored in the EKP module.
CAUSE

Electric fuel pump control module (EKP)
PROCEDURE

Perform ISTA/D diagnosis; run through the corresponding test plan. Replace the EKP control module
following Repair Instruction 16 14 500, “Remove and refit/replace EKP control module.”
Restart the engine and then perform an ISTA short test again. If the EKP fault code 481B05 is NOT stored
again, the vehicle has been repaired and may be released.
If any of the EKP fault codes are present, work through the corresponding ISTA/D test plan. Most likely,
replacement of the electric fuel pump will be necessary.
