Reason for this Service Bulletin
Aston Martin
has found that frequent use of the deployable spoiler on Vanquish Zagato Volante and Speedster models
can cause increased wear of the spoiler mechanism. Increased wear of the spoiler mechanism can result in an incorrect
spoiler position which can reduce visibility of the central high-mounted stop-lamp (CHMSL).
At the annual service, do the procedure that follows to examine the position of the raised spoiler.
Workshop Procedure
This Workshop Procedure has the parts that follow:
•
Part A - Examine the position of the raised deployable spoiler
•
Part B – Replace the deployable spoiler
Part A - Examine the position of the raised deployable spoiler
CAUTION:
1.
DO NOT MANUALLY MOVE OR ADJUST THE POSITION OF THE DEPLOYABLE SPOILER AT ANY
POINT IN THE STEPS THAT FOLLOW.
Turn the vehicle ignition on. The spoiler will deploy
to stage 1. (Refer to Figure 1.)

BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE ANY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IN THE STEP THAT FOLLOWS.
DO NOT USE A METAL TOOL THAT COULD SCRATCH THE PAINTWORK.

Measure the height between the boot lid and the
bottom surface of the spoiler.
Do this at the vehicle centre line. (Refer to Figure 2,
Figure 3 and Figure 4.)
Record the result.

Deploy the spoiler to stage 2. Use the maintenance
mode button on the vehicle’s center stack.
(Refer to Figure 5.)

Retract the spoiler from stage 2 to stage 1. Use the maintenance mode button on the vehicle’s center stack.
7.
Measure the height between the boot lid and the bottom surface of the spoiler.
Do this at the vehicle centre line. (Refer to Figure 2, Figure 3 and Figure 4.)
Record the result.
8.
The stage 1 spoiler height results recorded at step 2
and step 7 should not be less than 92mm. (Refer to
Figure 6.)

If the results are equal to or more than 92mm then the spoiler mechanism is correct and no further action is
needed.
10. If the results are less than 92mm then the spoiler mechanism can be considered worn and must be replaced. Do

Remove the screw that attaches the boot lid trim to
the boot lid. (Refer to Figure 7.)

Remove the seven clips that attach the boot lid trim
to the boot lid. Use a trim removal tool to do this.
(Refer to Figure 8.)

Remove the boot lid trim.
5.
Close the boot lid.
6.
Deploy the spoiler to stage 2. Use the maintenance mode button on the vehicle’s center stack.
7.
Remove the access hole plugs. Use a trim removal
tool to do this. (Refer to Figure 9.)

Remove the screws that attach the spoiler blade to
the spoiler mechanism. (Refer to Figure 10.)

Remove the spoiler blade and any shims.
10.
Turn the vehicle ignition off. This will retract the spoiler mechanism.
11.
Remove the twelve screws that attach the spoiler
mechanism to the boot lid. (Refer to Figure 11.)

Lift the spoiler mechanism carefully and disconnect it
from the wiring harness. (Refer to Figure 12.)

Remove the spoiler mechanism from the vehicle.

Move the new spoiler mechanism into position.

Connect the new spoiler mechanism to the wiring
harness. (Refer to Figure 13.)

Install the new spoiler mechanism in the boot lid.
Torque the twelve screws to 2Nm in the order
shown. (Refer to Figure 14.)

Turn the vehicle ignition on and deploy the spoiler to stage 2. Use the maintenance mode button on the
vehicle’s center stack.
CAUTION:

MAKE SURE NO DAMAGE TO THE SPOILER BLADE OCCURS IN STEPS 18 AND 19 THAT
FOLLOW.
Attach the spoiler blade to the spoiler mechanism.
Tighten the screws with your fingers. (Refer to Figure
15.)

Turn the vehicle ignition off. This will retract the
spoiler to stage 0. (Refer to Figure 16.)

Make sure that the gap between the spoiler blade
and boot lid is the same all around. (Refer to Figure
17.)

Note:

Also make sure that the spoiler blade is flush with the boot lid. This can be adjusted by a change to
the shim pack height. If necessary do steps 17 thru 20 again to get this correct.
Open the boot lid.
22. Torque the four screws that attach the spoiler blade
to the spoiler mechanism to 9Nm. Get access to the
four screws through the access hole in the boot lid
and spoiler mechanism. (Refer to Figure 18.)

23. Move the boot lid trim into position in the boot lid.
24. Install the seven clips that attach the boot lid trim to
the boot lid. (Refer to Figure 19.)
