Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the
next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves 2,738 i3 REX vehicles produced from July 2016 up to November 2017.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION
OBD relevant diagnoses of the KLE (convenience charging electronics) cannot be processed correctly because
of a data transmission error in the EME (electrical machine electronics).

CAUSE
Data transmission error in the EME

CORRECTION
Re-establishing communication between charging electronics and EME with diagnosis tester.

PROCEDURE
Connect the battery charger to the vehicle.
Connect the diagnosis system to the vehicle and run a vehicle test and follow the service function steps listed
below in ISTA:


ISTA 4.09.3x or a more current version is required to teach the convenience charging electronics.
The system must be programmed to at least I001-17-11-541 before this teach in is performed.
For more information on programming to this version first, please refer to SI B65 23 17 to see if this
Recall campaign applies and still shows open to be performed.
