DELIVERY STOP: REFRIGERANT AIR CONDITIONING
New information provided by this revision is preceded by this symbol

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the
next time the vehicle is in the shop.

SITUATION
An incorrect refrigerant was used to fill the refrigerant circuit in the affected vehicles after assembly.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves X5 or X6 (Only 8 vehicles) vehicles produced from January 16 to February 19,
2018.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
The affected vehicles will be identified with the description:
0064950100 B640318 Delivery Stop: Refrigerant Air Conditioning.

CORRECTION
Completely empty A/C refrigerant system into special recovery tanks and fill with new refrigerant.
Note: Failure to properly evacuate affected systems will result in contamination of A/C service
equipment.

PROCEDURE
1. Prior to performing this repair, make sure you have the proper tool kit listed below:

Order the disposal equipment Part # 81 34 2 420 076 and
accessories as shown in picture:





Insulation box (1)
Connecting hose low-pressure service connection R1234yf
(2)
Mounting for disposal bottle (3)

Accessories




Recovery tank (obtained from local refrigerant/disposal
company)
Dry ice nuggets, approx. 30 lbs. (obtained from local supplier)

Warning:





Discharging of the refrigerant into the atmosphere, is a violation of the EPA’s Refrigerant
Recycling Rule.
Always adhere to proper safety information (including proper personal protection) in ISTA for
handling refrigerant.
Note: Observe and comply with the safety information on the tool containers.

2. Evacuate the recovery tank first that was supplied in the tool kit.
3. Place the recovery tank in a freezer (if available) overnight before using it with dry ice. This will reduce the
time to evacuate.
4. Operate engine until it has achieved operating temperature then turn.

5. Set up cool box in front of the vehicle as shown.
6. Insert tank holder in the cool box and then place recovery
tank in the holder.
7. Attach one end of hose onto the valve of recovery tank and
the other end to the low pressure vehicle service port.
8. Switch the vehicle to diagnosis mode with a battery charger
connected.

9. Turn air conditioner blower to medium.
10. Fill the cool box with the dry ice along the sides of the tank.
Note: Do not cover top of tank with dry ice.

11. Open the vehicle’s low pressure connection and the valve on
the tank.
12. Draw off refrigerant circuit for 30 min.
13. Close valves at vehicle low pressure connection and at the
recovery tank.
14. Remove hose between the valves.
15. Move cool box with recovery tank to warm location to
evaporate dry ice quickly.
16. Connect A/C service station to the vehicle refrigerant circuit.
17. Evacuate the refrigerant circuit twice.
18. Fill refrigerant circuit with R1234yf refrigerant and 10 ml oil
(refer to label on hood for proper amount and type)
19. Process recovery tank with certified disposal company.
20. Remove protective equipment.
21. Perform a final check of the air conditioning system for proper operation.

performed. This means that centers may not legally deliver new motor vehicles to a
consumer until it is fixed or use/sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a delivery
stop. Note also that substantial civil penalties apply to violations of this law.
Also, you should not sell, lease or deliver any Certified Pre-Owned or used vehicles
subject to a delivery stop until the repair is completed.
