Replacing or Upgrading AirLiner 40k Transverse Torque Rods
The standard-duty transverse torque rod 16-16749-002 (see Fig. 1), used in the Airliner 40,000 lbs rear
suspension application can fail due to the bar pin bushings walking out, causing metal to metal contact between
the torque rod and axle tower bracket. When replacing a failed Airliner 40,000 lbs transverse torque rod, always
use the Airliner suspension 46,000 lbs transverse torque rod 16-18972-000 as the replacement rod, which has
curled ends to better contain the bushing and prevent bushing walk-out.
