Some customers may comment that their vehicle doesn't have an engine oil heater and

would like a heater installed:

Important: Please inform the customer that the engine oil heater should be plugged in a

minimum of three hours prior to starting the vehicle.

If a customer is in area of extreme cold, it is recommended that they install an engine oil

heater. This will provide easier cold starting and better protection for the engine at

extremely low temperatures. For additional oil requirements, refer to Vehicle Service and

Care in the vehicle's Owner’s Manual.
Using the parts listed below, follow this procedure to

install the engine oil heater.

Note: This installation was performed on a Terrain,

Equinox similar.

Important: An optional front lower grille with a

pre-formed mounting hole for the access plug, can be

installed at customers expense if they do not want the

grille drilled into. Refer to Bumper/Front Part 2 Fascia in

the EPC.

1. Remove the front fascia (1). refer to Front Bumper

Fascia Replacement in SI.

2. Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Clean the oil pan surface of oil and debris (1) and

wipe dry with a clean lint-free towel prior to

installing the heater.

4. Verify the oil heater mount bolt holes are free or

debris (2).

5. Apply a thin bead of GM Super Lube® with PTFE,

P/N 12371287 (in Canada, P/N 10953437) or

equivalent, non-melting high thermal silicone paste

to the backside of engine oil pan heater.

6. Install the oil heater (2) to the oil pan.

• Torque the bolts (1) to specifications. Refer to

Fastener Specifications in SI.

7. Connect the oil heater electrical connector (1).

8. Route the wiring harness along existing wiring

harness (2).

Note: Position the harness towards the wiring harness

under the UBEC to allow for easier access when the

vehicle is lowered.

9. Route the plug between the charge air cooler tube

and bumper.

10. Using care, drill a hole in the charge air cooler side

baffle (1).

11. Install the heater side harness electrical connector

(3) to the anchor point at the baffle (1).

12. Route the temperature sensor harness (2) above

the heater harness.

15. Using care, drill a 1-inch hole.

16. Cut a small notch at the top of the hole for the

alignment guide (2) on the access plug.

17. Feed the access plug wiring harness through

the hole.

18. Align the access plug guide with the notch and

verify if the plug sits flush against the grille.

19. Install the spring collar (1), spring (2), and lock (3)

in that order onto the plug.

20. Secure the wiring harness to the fog lamp wiring

harness allowing enough harness to reach heater

side wiring harness.

21. With the aid of an assistant, install the front bumper

fascia.

22. Connect the access plug wiring harness connector

(2) to the heater side wiring harness connector (1).

23. Lower the vehicle.

26. Store the engine oil heater cord inside the trunk.
