Condition

Some customers may comment that the 2nd row center seat belt is not retracting fully or
will not extract from the seat.

Cause

The cause of the condition may be that the seat belt may be twisted within the belt guide,
in the back of the seat.

Correction

Verify the condition, then follow the Service Procedure below to untwist the seat belt and
replace the seat belt opening bezel with a new designed bezel. The new design has a
reduction in the belt opening which will eliminate the belt twisting during retraction.

1. Remove the rear center seat belt retractor from the
seat. Refer to Rear Center Seat Belt Retractor
Replacement, in SI.

Note: As shown in the graphic above, most commonly,
the twist is found to be between the retractor and the
belt sleeve.
2. Check for any visible twist in the seat belt. In some
cases, the twist will not be visible if it is inside the
retractor.

3. Remove the twist from the seatbelt by working the
twist upward through the sleeve.
4. Reinstall the rear center seat belt retractor to the
seat. Refer to Rear Center Seat Belt Retractor
Replacement, in SI.

Important: Ensure the bezel is properly and fully
seated.
5. Replace the original seat belt opening bezel (2)
with the appropriate color new design service part
(1), listed in the Part table below.
6. After installation, ensure the seat belt is extracting
and retracting normally.
