Reason for this Service Bulletin

If a Customer makes a complaint that the brakes on their vehicle give the problems that follow:

• The brakes are difficult to modulate at low speed.

• The vehicle is not easy to drive smoothly to a stop.

Do the Workshop Procedure that follows, as applicable, to correct this problem:

On vehicles up to VIN L03549, you must update the software of the Electronic Stability & Park Brake (ESP) Module. This

will change the parameters of the vacuum pump for the brake booster to make it smoother in operation.

On all vehicles, you must use the brake bleed procedure in the Aston Martin Diagnostic System (AMDS) 2.0 software.

This procedure bleeds the full brake system to remove all air bubbles. Air bubbles in the hydraulic fluid decreases the

'feel' of the brake pedal.
Workshop Procedure

This workshop procedure has the parts that follow:

• Part A: ESP Module Software Update

• Part B: AMDS 2.0 Brake Bleed Procedure

Part A: ESP Module Software Update

Note:
Part A of this procedure is only applicable for DB11 V12 vehicles up to VIN L03549.
CAUTIONS:
CONNECT THE AMDS 2.0 EQUIPMENT TO AN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY WHEN YOU DO THE

PROCEDURE THAT FOLLOWS. IF THE LAPTOP BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE

UPDATE, THE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.

YOU MUST CONNECT A BATTERY CHARGER TO THE VEHICLE BEFORE YOU DO DIAGNOSTIC

PROCEDURES. IF THE VEHICLE BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE PROCEDURE,

THE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.
Notes: Make sure that the AMDS 2.0 software has updated to the latest version. The AMDS 2.0 software will need

a good Internet connection (minimum broadband speed of 2 Mbit/second) to make sure that the software

is updated correctly.

A high output battery charger (minimum of 80 A) is necessary to meet the demand of the radiator cooling

fan. The battery charger must also be compatible with Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) type batteries.

1.
Remove the armrest (standard armrest). Open the armrest to position “1” (powered armrest).
2.
Remove the end cap from the vehicle key. Put the vehicle key in the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS).
3.
Turn the vehicle key clockwise to set the ignition to “On”.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE IGNITION STAYS SET TO “ON” DURING THE FULL PROCEDURE.

IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THE POWER SUPPLY TO SOME COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE’S

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAN SHUT DOWN.

IF THE SYSTEM VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE PROCEDURE, THE SOFTWARE UPDATE

CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM.
4.
Connect the AMDS 2.0 equipment to the vehicle. Make sure that the laptop is connected to an electrical supply

during the procedure.
5.
When AMDS 2.0 has recognised the vehicle’s VIN, navigate to the landing page of AMDS 2.0.
6.
Select the “Flash” menu. Select “ESP” from the list of

modules that will appear (refer to Figure 1).

Click on the “OK” button to select.

Select “Use AMDS II Database” (refer to “1” in Figure

2).

Click on the “Flash Download” button to start the update procedure (refer to “2” in Figure 2).
9.
The update is an automatic procedure. Approximately six or seven minutes are necessary to do the procedure.
10. The update is complete when you can read “Post-programming sequence completed OK. VCI Disconnected.

DRVU reset OK” in the display. Close the “Flash” window.

11. Do a check for DTCs stored by the ESP module. Erase all the DTCs that the module has stored.

Note:
If necessary, refer to “AMDS 2.0 DTC and Part Number Reader Guide” for information about how to

read and clear DTCs. A copy is published under “AMDS” in the Dealer Support section of DCS.
12. When the procedure is completed, set the ignition to “Off”.

Part B: AMDS 2.0 Brake Bleed Procedure

Notes:
Do this procedure on all applicable vehicles.
CAUTIONS:
CONNECT THE AMDS 2.0 EQUIPMENT TO AN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY WHEN YOU DO THE

PROCEDURE THAT FOLLOWS. IF THE LAPTOP BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE

PROCEDURE, THE PROCEDURE CAN STOP.

Connect the AMDS 2.0 equipment to the vehicle. Make sure that the laptop is connected to an electrical supply

during the procedure.
5.
When AMDS 2.0 has recognised the vehicle’s VIN, navigate to the landing page of AMDS 2.0.
6.
Do the “Brake Bleed - With AMDS” procedure (refer to Workshop Manual procedure 06.07.DD).
Note:
Make sure that the brake-fluid level does not drop below the "MIN" level indicator on the brake-fluid

reservoir.
7.
When the procedure is completed, set the ignition to “Off”.
8.
Remove the vehicle key and install the key cap.
9.
Install or close the armrest.
Note:
If the brake modulation continues to be unsatisfactory after the above procedures are completed, please

contact AMTech.
