Dear Ducati Dealer,
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform you that the new software management system specific to Ducati
Performance racing exhausts is now available on the DCS platform.
This system is an evolution of the software introduced with technical bulletin SRV-ESB-17-006 Ducati
Performance Software Package concerning the purchase and installation of the “Ducati Traction & Wheelie
Control Evo” part no.96580151A applicable to models 1299 Panigale and 1299 Panigale S, Model Year 20152016.
Unlike the previous bulletin that required use of the Map-Key, this new system manages the installation of
the software systems associated with the Ducati Performance exhausts through the DCS platform; therefore,
the Map-Key will NO LONGER be supplied as standard equipment with the Ducati Performance exhaust
system (this is ONLY applicable to the models compatible with this system).
The first models where this new feature will be used are:
 Panigale V4 Model Year ‘18;
 Panigale V4 S Model Year ‘18;
 Panigale V4 Speciale Model Year ‘18.
This system is available ONLY to official Ducati dealers, who must log into both the DCS platform and the
DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument to be able to use it. Use of the new software management system for Ducati
Performance racing exhausts requires the DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument be updated to version 8.5.0,
available beginning the 26th of February 2018.
This bulletin shows the correct procedure for Ducati Performance software ordering and installation, or for
the re-installation of the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) software associated with Ducati
Performance racing exhausts.
NOTE
Please remember, the titanium Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit by Akrapovic is already
supplied as an off-highway use kit for the Panigale V4 Speciale motorcycle; the customer can opt
to install this exhaust for track use. If the Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit is installed it will
be possible to directly connect the DDS 2.0 diagnosis tool to the motorcycle and validate the

software update request as well as program the control unit with the Ducati Performance
software.
Please refer to the assembly instructions supplied with motorcycle to install the Ducati Performance
Racing Exhaust kit by Akrapovic. Additionally, a video has been made showing the software installation

ATTENTION
For track use only. The Ducati Performance Racing Exhaust can only be used on off-highway
vehicles. The use outside of a closed course with this product is prohibited by law. Verify any
further restrictions with the relevant track/course. Operation on public roads is prohibited by law.
Motorcycles equipped with this accessory are prohibited from operating on public roads. This
product is intended only for track vehicles used on a closed-course.
The owner agrees to abide by the laws and regulations concerning the use of this nonhomlogated exhaust system when opting to install.

RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY IMPROPER USE OF THE ABOVE-MENTIONED ACCESSORY.

under certain circumstances.

ensure that Ducati dealers and customers are aware of and comply with the legal requirements

connected to the sale of those parts. Please refer to Bulletin: AS-17-025.
In DCS you will find the Disclaimer, Waiver and Release document that you are required to
use for every sale of Ducati Corse or Ducati Performance Racing Exhaust Kit or System and/or
part/s that are noted specifically by Ducati in its catalogs for “racing only”.
This document should be completed and signed, at the time of purchase, by the customer
purchasing any Ducati “racing only” components from your dealership.
The dealership will also be required fill-in the dealership’s information (Dealer Name, Dealer
Code, and Dealer Representative) as indicated on the form.
Then submit a YouTech with a scanned copy of the form with the following:
• Photographic proof of the trailering of the motorcycle to and from the dealer; and
• Photographic proof that on-road features of the motorcycle have been deactivated,
particularly the headlight, turn signal and brake light.
Completed Disclaimer, Waiver and Release documents should be kept on file at your dealership
along with the corresponding parts invoice/receipt indicating all “racing only” components
purchased by the customer for a minimum of five (5) years.
1) Creation of the purchase order of the Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit
NOTE
The purchase order must NOT be created for the Panigale V4 Speciale version where the
titanium Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit by Akrapovic is already supplied as optional
installation kit with the motorcycle.
To create a purchase order for the Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit, access the DCS platform and follow
the procedure listed below:
a) Select “New Order” inside the section “Apparel, Parts & Accessories”.

b) Insert the Ducati product part no. and the quantity of product to be ordered.
NOTE
In the “Notes” field, it is also possible to add the information of the order made, useful to
manage the next “Update reservation” operation related to the motorcycle frame number
(VIN) to be updated.
c) Once the relevant fields have been filled, press “Send” and confirm. (See image on following page).

Alternatively you can directly select the Ducati part number (e.g., "Ducati Performance racing exhaust by
Akrapovic" part no.96481381A) from the accessories catalog, add it to the shopping basket and complete the
order.

NOTE
In order to return the accessory, the software in the control unit(s) must be returned to the OEM
homologated condition (Original Equipment Manufacturer); then follow the dedicated return
procedure (RMA).

2) Reserving the software update for the frame number (VIN) saved in the control unit
To reserve the software update for a specific VIN follow the procedure listed below:
a) Within the DCS platform select “Ducati Performance Software Package” in the “Service” section.

b) Select the “Search” function to display the full list of software purchased, already installed or to be
installed on the motorcycle.

ATTENTION
ONLY the Dealer that created the purchase order can reserve the software update for a
specific VIN; once the update has been reserved it will be possible to update the software of
one or more control units using any DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument updated to version 8.5.0
with active subscription.
The update search can be carried out using the following filters:
- Purchase order number;
- Part number;
- Voucher;
- Update status (“Open”, “Processing”, “Error”, “Completed”);
- Frame number (VIN);
- Date created.

The displayed table associated to the purchased Ducati Performance racing exhaust kits lists:
- order number with associated date of issue;
- Ducati part number purchased with brief description;
- name of the Dealer or Service Point that made the purchase;
- notes that can be entered only when entering the order;
 (YT # for Waiver – refer to AS-17-025)
- frame number (VIN) that has been updated or that will be updated;
- status of the update process;
- button ( ) that is used if the update reservation is cancelled.

For any purchased Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit, a row containing the information listed
above and the editable field associated to the frame number to be reserved will be generated.
Orders with multiple purchases will display as many rows as the purchased kits. All rows created will
have as a reference the same purchase order number.
The rows associated to the software systems of the purchased Ducati Performance racing exhaust
kits will be visible from the moment the exhaust kit will be shipped from the Ducati warehouse.
In the following example 3 exhaust kits are purchased with 2 different purchase orders.

The first of the two software systems associated to the same purchase order has been already
reserved for the VIN “ZDMDA00AAJB000735” and is in “processing” status; this means that the
Ducati Performance software programming consent has already been requested for this frame
number with a DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument of the Ducati authorized network.

The second update has not yet been reserved for a VIN and therefore is not yet usable to carry out a Ducati
Performance software update.
c) To reserve the update simply type the motorcycle VIN to be updated in the “VIN" column.
By selecting the magnifying glass ( ), you will see a search window in the Ducati database for the VIN
entered that will facilitate the selection.

ATTENTION
Check that the VIN written on all electronic control units of the motorcycle to be updated
matches the one entered in the DCS field.
Check that the VIN written in the electronic control units matches with the one on the
motorcycle frame.
By pressing the "Continue" button, and then confirming, the software update for the VIN in question will be
reserved.
Please remember that it is not possible to make more than one reservation for the same VIN.
If the VIN entered is incorrect or it is changed, it can be cancelled ONLY IF the "Status" for the update is
"Open". This means that permission has not yet been requested from a DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument for the
installation of the software on this VIN. In this case you can cancel the update reservation and/or modify its
value.

To cancel the VIN entered press the button ( ) present in the last column on the right and confirm the
operation by selecting the “Reset” button ( ).

ATTENTION
In case of problems with the cancellation of the entered, VIN update the page by pressing
the "search" button at the top right of the main search page of the list of Ducati
Performance Software Package updates.
d) Use the Ducati DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument to get consent and install the software update on the
control unit in question.
3) Validation of the update request and programming of the control unit with Ducati Performance software
To validate the update request and the control unit programming, follow the procedure listed below:
a) Ensure AS-17-025 has been properly filled out and submitted in YouTech. Use the YouTech number
as a reference in the comments on exhaust order.
b) Connect the VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) diagnosis instrument to the diagnostic socket of
the motorcycle and turn the key to on.
c) Using DDS 2.0 select the Ducati model on which you plan to upgrade the electronic control unit
software. Please remember, it is possible to automatically recognize the Ducati model by pressing
the "Identify Model" button at the top left.

Once the model has been selected, the Global Scan will be automatically launched; at the end close the page
pressing the “X” button at the top right.
d) Select “Ducati Performance Software Package Special Functions” and then “Ducati Performance”.

e) Enter the data associated to the DCS access profile:

ATTENTION
Make sure you have an active internet connection on the computer you are using, otherwise
it will not be possible to proceed with the update.
Check that the VIN written in the electronic control units and the one added during
reservation match with the VIN of the motorcycle.
f) After the first recognition phase, authorization will be requested to install the Ducati Performance
software necessary for the correct operation of the racing exhaust.
Software installation procedure will start if authorization is granted. If it is necessary to update more than
one control unit, updates will be planned in sequence in the new Ducati Performance Global Scan mode.
The new Ducati Performance Global Scan update function allows viewing information relevant to the
software that you are installing:
- file name; country version; release notes.

NOTE
Carefully read the release notes of the software being installed. In case of doubt on software
correctness during installation, do NOT use the motorcycle.
Fill in a YouTech request and send it to the reference Service Area Manager to promptly
signal the NON-conformity.
Following are the different Ducati Performance software systems that can be installed on the Panigale V4,
Panigale V4 S and Panigale V4 Speciale models according to the ordered racing exhaust kit.
96481381A (or next) - COMPLETE RACING EXHAUST SYSTEM 1409
Two types of software systems will be installed for the complete racing exhaust kit part no.96481381A:
1)
Ducati Performance engine ECU software for complete exhaust racing kit.
2)
Software for BlackBox control unit (Version 47 or next).
ATTENTION
These two software systems must both be installed on the associated control units to
ensure a correct operation of the strategies present in the DVAC system.
If this is not the case it may happen that:
 the error “P1301 - ECU software not compatible” will be displayed in “Current” status in

the BBS control unit.
 the DTC (Ducati Traction Control), DWC (Ducati Wheelie Control) and DSC (Ducati Slide
Control) systems will not work optimally.
 the DPL (Ducati Power Launch) strategy cannot be used.
In this case, it is necessary to fill in a YouTech assistance request and send it to the
reference Service Area Manager and not to use the motorcycle until the problem detected is
solved.
96481391A (or next) - RACING SILENCERS 1409
For the racing silencer Part no.96481391A, only one type of software will be installed:
1) Ducati Performance engine ECU software for silencer kit.
If the installation is not successful, it is possible to autonomously repeat the software update operation two
more times by exclusively using the electronic control unit which has the VIN entered when making the
reservation.
To do this, simply exit the current update session and repeat the procedure, following the instructions for
Step 3) “Validation of the software update request and programming of the control unit with Ducati
Performance software”.
NOTE
Three failed update attempts on the same VIN will lock the system. In this case it is no
longer possible to attempt to install the software and you must contact your reference
Service Area Manager by completing a request for YouTech assistance containing the
following information:
1) Type of update attempted, indicating the Ducati Performance kit part number;
2) The order number;
3) Serial number of the DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument used;
4) Motorcycle frame number (VIN);
5) Problem Description.
Throughout the procedure, the DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument communicates the update progress to the DCS
platform. Once the authentication procedure has been completed, the "Status" of the update will be set to
"Processing".

Once the installation of the software has been completed successfully, the "Status" will change to
"Completed".
This successfully closes the transaction relating to the installation of the software purchased, and it will no
longer be possible to install the same software on that VIN.

If errors occurred during the software installation, the "Status" will be set to "Error".

ATTENTION
At the end of the procedure for the installation of the Ducati Performance software and
before delivering the motorcycle to the Customer, it is necessary to perform a Global Scan
to allow the DDS 2.0 diagnosis instrument to check that all software systems of control
units are correct: if the DDS 2.0 will prompt an update proceed with the installation and
delete any error present.
4) Uninstallation of the Ducati Performance software and installation of the OEM (Original Equipment
Manufacturer) software
Any Ducati authorized Dealer can uninstall the Ducati Performance software using the DDS 2.0 instrument
updated to version 8.5.0 with active subscription.
To uninstall the Ducati Performance software and install the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
software follow the procedure listed below:
a) Connect the VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) to the diagnostic socket of the motorcycle and
turn the key to on.
b) Using DDS 2.0 select the Ducati model on which you plan to uninstall the Ducati Performance
software. Please remember, it is possible to automatically recognize the Ducati model by pressing
the "Identify model" button at the top left.

Before proceeding with the installation, carefully read the additional information of the
software proposed; in particular, check that the country version of the proposed OEM map
is correct.
NOTE
Carefully read the release notes of the software being installed. In case of doubt on software
correctness during installation, do not use the motorcycle.
Fill in a YouTech request and send it to the reference Service Area Manager to promptly
signal the NON-conformity.
Following are the different OEM software systems that can be installed on the Panigale V4, Panigale V4 S and
Panigale V4 Speciale models according to the racing exhaust kit previously installed.
96481381A (or next) - COMPLETE RACING EXHAUST SYSTEM 1409
Two types of software systems will be installed for the complete racing exhaust kit part no.96481381A:
1) OEM engine ECU software for OEM exhaust system.
2) Software for BlackBox control unit (Version 27 or next, lower than 47).

ATTENTION
These two software systems must be both installed on the associated control units to
ensure a correct operation of the strategies present in the DVAC system.
If this is not the case it is possible that:
 the error “P1301 - ECU software not compatible” will be displayed in “Current” status in
the BBS control unit.
 the DTC (Ducati Traction Control), DWC (Ducati Wheelie Control) and DSC (Ducati Slide
Control) systems will not work optimally.
 the DPL (Ducati Power Launch) strategy cannot be used.
It will therefore be necessary to fill in a YouTech assistance request and send it to your
reference Service Area Manager and refrain from using the motorcycle until the problem
detected is solved.
96481391A (or next) - RACING SILENCERS 1409

f) After uninstalling the Ducati Performance software, an alphanumeric code will be generated to be
printed as "Voucher" and handed over to the final Customer together with the Ducati Performance
racing exhaust removed from the motorcycle.

5) Printing and handing over the Voucher to the Customer
NOTE
The Voucher is visible only to the Dealer that has uninstalled the Ducati Performance software.
After installing the OEM software systems on the VIN being processed, a .pdf file will be generated in the
DCS platform; this file represents the Voucher containing some information about the Ducati Performance
racing exhaust kit as well as an alphanumeric code.
The Voucher must be handed over to the Customer; it allows carrying out a new reservation of the software
systems supplied with the Ducati Performance racing exhausts. The alphanumeric code contained in it must
be entered in the DCS platform at the next installation of the Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit.
NOTE
The alphanumeric code generated and written in the voucher is not valid until the OEM
software has been correctly installed on the origin motorcycle.

To trace the Voucher in the DCS platform it is necessary to select “Ducati Performance Software Package” in
the “Service section and use one of the fields available in the search window:
 Part number;
 State: Completed;
 Frame no. (VIN): *function available soon;
 Date created;
Then press “Search” button.

All rows compatible with the selected search criteria will be displayed.
In the row associated to the VIN of the motorcycle from which the Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit has
been removed it will be possible to view the Voucher by pressing on the symbol ( ) .
Press on the “PDF” icon and save/print the Voucher in .pdf format.

Finally, deliver

In case of a second or next installation of the Ducati Performance Racing Exhaust Kit, it is necessary to use
the alphanumeric code written on the Voucher to reserve a new Ducati Performance software update.
Within the DCS platform select “Ducati Performance Software Package” in the “Service” section.
Use the Voucher search field typing the alphanumeric code of the Voucher that the Customer will hand over
with the Ducati Performance exhaust kit, then press search ( ).

Please note that the Ducati Performance racing exhaust kit can only be used on Ducati racing motorcycles.
The motorcycle on which that kit will be installed must be used only on racetracks during motorcycle racing and
shall not be used on public roads. The owner agrees to abide by the laws and regulations concerning racing use
and racing motorcycles.

In the row associated to the order number with the Voucher alphanumeric code, it will be possible to reserve
the VIN on which you wish to perform the Ducati Performance software update.
