DESCRIPTION
If you are working on an engine that is full of oil sludge, the best way to clean it would be the following. Most engine oil sludge
is caused by a lack of maintenance by the customer and this should be considered a non warranty procedure. Contact tech
services and open a case file so that the oil change records can be reviewed. If unit is out of warranty preceded to the
procedure. The customer MUST be reminded about proper service intervals.
SYMPTOMS
• Poor maintenance leads to sludge building up in the engine and damaging vital components such as the turbocharger.
Evidence of sludge can be found in most areas of the engine such as under the valve covers, in turbocharger oil ports, the
pedestal, the valley of the engine, in the oil pan, etc.
CLEANING PROCEDURE
1. Drain the oil out and install a new oil filter

Fill the crankcase half way with Diesel or Kerosene
Finish filling with brand new oil
Start the unit and let it idle up to operating temperature
Set to 1200RPM for 10 minutes
Shut down engine and immediately drain oil and remove the oil filter
Re-inspect for sludge (Note: This procedure may need to be run more than once depending on the severity of sludge build
up)
