DESCRIPTION
This document will guide the user through the A26 Extended Oil Drain Interval Program and process.

OVERVIEW
International is offering our Extended Oil Drain Interval (ODI) program to provide longer oil and oil filter service intervals, when possible.
This is accomplished through oil sampling, laboratory analysis of the oil sample and final approval from International Truck. NOTE: TBN
READING IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO EVALUATE SAMPLE RESULTS. THIS MAY NEED TO BE ADDED/SPECIFIED WHEN SENDING
SAMPLE BOTTLE BACK TO LABORATORY FOR ANALYSIS.
1. Why do I need to take oil samples?
• Oil samples taken throughout the oil drain interval offer the greatest insight into how the engine is operating. The oil chemistry is analyzed to
identify how much life is left in the oil at the end of the standard oil drain interval.

2. Who can participate?
• Any International A26 in an LT or RH vehicle that delivers greater than 6.5 mpg is able to participate. The customer must use CK-4 or FA-4
engine oil exclusively. Mineral, semi synthetic, and full synthetic versions of these API oil categories are acceptable.

3. What engines are a part of this program?
• The International A26 is the only International engine allowed to participate. Additional engines may be added in the future.

4. When does the Extended Oil Drain Interval program start?
• This will be available at the start of A26 production.

5. How do I get started?
• Contact International Truck via OilAnalysis@Navistar.com to enroll in the program. International will provide detailed guidelines and answer
any questions.

6. Once I am enrolled in the program, what do I need to do?

• At the start of the program
1. Collect an oil sample of brand new engine oil from the container directly. This same engine oil must be used throughout the oil
sampling program and while operating with an extended ODI.
2. Run the engine for 10 minutes (e.g. idle). Collect an oil sample from the engine.
3. Submit both oil samples to an ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 certified laboratory for analysis.
4. Submit the analysis to OilAnalysis@Navistar.com
• At 25,000 (+/- 5,000) miles
1. Collect an oil sample from the engine.
2. Submit oil sample to an ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 certified laboratory for analysis.
3. Submit the analysis to OilAnalysis@Navistar.com
• At 50,000 (+/- 5,000) miles
1. Collect an oil sample from the engine.
2. Submit oil sample to an ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 certified laboratory for analysis.
3. Submit the analysis to OilAnalysis@Navistar.com
4. Within four weeks of submitting the data, International Truck will provide an
initial recommended extended oil drain interval to be applied for the subsequent oil change interval.

• Immediately after completing the oil and oil filter change, run the
engine for 10 minutes (e.g. idle)
1. Collect an oil sample from the engine.
2. Submit oil sample to an ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 certified laboratory for analysis.
3. Submit the analysis to OilAnalysis@Navistar.com
4. Change the engine oil and oil filter.
• At 25,000 (+/­ 5,000) miles
1. Collect an oil sample from the engine.
2. Submit oil sample to an ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 certified laboratory for analysis.
3. Submit the analysis to OilAnalysis@Navistar.com

• At the initial recommended extended oil drain interval
1. Collect an oil sample from the engine.
2. Change the engine oil and oil filter.
3. Submit oil sample to an ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 certified laboratory for analysis.
4. Submit the analysis to OilAnalysis@Navistar.com
5. Within four weeks of submitting the data, International Truck will review these final
results and will provide a final extended oil drain interval. Oil sampling and review
with International Truck is not required after this.
6. International Truck reserves the right to request additional oil sampling if there is
any anomaly in the data.

7. Do I need to use a certain oil during or after the program?
• The same engine oil must be used throughout the oil sampling program and upon receiving approval of an extended oil drain interval, except
for weight and viscosity which can vary due to ambient temperature changes. This includes top offs.
• If the customer chooses to switch oils during or any time after participating in the program, they will need to re-enter the program.

8. What is the factory fill engine oil?
• Standard factory fill engine oil is Shell Rotella T4 Triple Protection 10W-30 CK-4.
• Optional factory fill engine oil is Shell HD 2081 10W-30 FA-4.

9. What if the oil we use is not the same oil as the factory fill?
• During oil sampling, the same oil must be used for both intervals and all subsequent oil drain intervals, except for weight and viscosity.

10. How do I take oil samples?
• An engine oil sample must be taken from the oil sampling port after the engine has been warmed up (e.g. idle for 10 mins). Use a clean oil
sample bottle and collect an oil sample of 4 to 6 ounces.
11. What laboratories are approved?
• Any laboratory that is ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 certified is acceptable. Examples include:

12. What data must the certified laboratory provide to International?
• The following data is required once for the population of equivalently spec’d vehicles, operating in equivalent applications and equivalent duty
cycles:
1. Brand and type of engine oil
2. Viscosity grade of engine oil
3. API category of engine oil
4. Oil sample analysis results of brand new oil directly from the supply/container of new oil
5. Name of the laboratory used

• The following data is required to be provided for each vehicle for each oil sample:
