The current city horn, part number 8084973, has shown to be susceptible to water intrusion,
possibly affecting performance or making the horn in-operable. The newly introduced horn
design will reduce/eliminate water intrusion and a new designed horn harness connector will
also reduces the potential for internal connector pin corrosion.

Repair Procedure
You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,
group 30, "General Safety Practices, Electrical and Electronics" before performing this
procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your
supervisor for training before you perform it.
1 Secure the vehicle for service by parking it on a flat level surface, applying the parking
brake, chocking the rear wheel, and placing the transmission in neutral.
2 Disconnect all cables from the negative battery terminals to prevent personal injury from
electrical shock and prevent damage to electrical components.
3 Disconnect wiring harness from horn.
4 Remove horn and mounting bracket from chassis.
5 Cut the horn connector from the chassis harness.

6 Strip each wire of the chassis harness evenly approximately 8mm (0.314 in).

7 Crimp the splice leads from the new pigtail harness (22285544) to the chassis wires.
Note: Match the new connector wires to the harness in the same position as before.

8 Heat shrink the wire splices properly using a heat gun.
Note: Heat shrink the splices until the glue appears from the end of splice.
Note: Make certain the factory crimped ends of the splice are also heat shrunk properly.

9 Install and secure replacement horn and bracket assembly. Torque the bracket to chassis
to 48 Nm ± 8 Nm (35 ± 6 ft lb).

10 Connect wiring harness connector to horn.
11 Fold back the extra length of harness, cable tie and secure.
12 Reconnect all previously removed cable to the negative (ground) battery terminals.
13 Verify proper operation.
14 Remove wheel chocks.
