ALTERNATOR AND A/C BELT IDLER REPLACEMENT

Prevost vehicles
DESCRIPTION
On the vehicles affected by this bulletin, replace two idlers by an improved version on the alternator drive
belt and on the A/C belts.

DANGER
Park vehicle safely, apply parking brake, stop engine. Prior to working on the vehicle, set the ignition
switch to the OFF position and trip the main circuit breakers equipped with a trip button. On Commuter
type vehicles, set the battery master switch (master cut-out) to the OFF position.

PROCEDURE
1. Relieve tension on the Alternator and A/C belts. Remove belts.
For additional details, refer to Maintenance Manual
•

Section 06, paragraph 5.3 “Alternator Drive Belt”

•

Section 22, paragraph 7.1 “Compressor”.

2. Inspect belt condition. Replace any damaged belts. Refer to material table for part numbers.
3. Remove both dust caps, discard.

4. Unscrew the A/C belt idler, discard pulley
and hardware.
5. Install the new idler. (Figure 1, Figure 3)
Tighten screw to 59 lb-ft
6. Install dustcap.(Figure 3)

7. Unscrew the alternator belt idler, discard
pulley and hardware.
8. Install the new idler assembly #450334 on
the supplied idler & alternator bracket
#21134692. (Figure 2, Figure 4)
Tighten screw to 82 lb-ft
9. Install dustcap. (Figure 4)

10. Re-install alternator and A/C belts.
11. Apply blue Loctite 243 on screw B threads
and then hand-tighten screw B.
Note: Loctite 243 Set Time is 10 min, Cure
Time is 24hours.
12. For the A/C belt, adjust tension by turning
Adjustment Screw A (Figure 5). Use the jam
nut at the base of Screw A to keep proper
tension adjustment.
13. Using a Dayco “Krikit” gage #7770002,
adjust tension within the following values for
BX71 Double Belt
90 - 100 lbs. – new

75 - 85 lbs. – used
14. When proper tension is achieved, tighten screw B to 43 lbf-ft. (58 N-m).
15. Start engine. Confirm proper operation with alternators charging and compressor in operation.
