Summary
ECOStar With the engine off and key in Run, if the OBDII fuse is blown, or the ECO601's data link harness is unplugged (either at the OBDII connector, or the 6 pin connector at the module) or the 12 pin connector at the module is unplugged, the engine will start and crank.

Issue: with engine off and key in Run, if the OBDII fuse is blown, or the ECO601’s data link harness is unplugged (either at the OBDII connector, or the 6 Pin connector at the module) or the 12 Pin connector at the
module is unplugged, the engine will start and crank.
Units Affected: all ECO601 modules with Blue colored Printed Circuit Boards.
Action: a supplemental s-j07a1 stub harness will be supplied at no cost to install between the ECO601 4 and
12 Pin connectors and the main ECO601 harness, which will minimize the opportunity of engine cranking.

Warning
Do NOT remove any of the connectors from the module or vehicle OBDII connector while the key is in
the ignition. Removing the 6-pin Data Link Connector from the module or the OBDII connector will result in the vehicle starting anytime the key is in the Run position. Removing the 12-pin connector from
the module while the key is in the Run position will result in the vehicle starting once, and then failing to
start in any key position after cycled out of the Run position.
1. Ensure that the key is out of the ignition.
2. Locate the ECO601 module, which is mounted under the dash
within 18” of the OBDII.
3. Remove the 4 and 12-pin connectors from the ECO601 module.
4. Install the stub harness 4 and 12-pin connectors at the ECO601
module.
5. Plug the other end of the stub harness into the 4 and 12-pin connectors previously removed in step 3.

Insert the key in the ignition and turn the key to the Run position.
Locate the fuse that supplies power to the OBDII connector (see table below).
Remove the fuse.
Confirm that the engine does not crank automatically.
Replace the fuse.
