1.0 – Introduction
If more than one VAS diagnostic laptop or tablet device is connected to the dealership network, each
device must be assigned a different computer name.
While various computer naming methods may be used, we suggest the following method to “build” and
set a unique computer name using a consistent format.
Note:
Please read these instructions carefully and in their entirety before performing any procedures.
If you do not understand these instructions, arrange to have a qualified person perform these
procedures.

2.0 – Preparation
2.1 – Determine Workshop & Device Identification
1. Carefully turn over the diagnostic laptop or tablet to read label information:

2. Record the last 5 numbers of the device Serial Nr.: from the label (space provided below).
3. Record the last 5 numbers/characters of your Dealership Number.

Proceed to “build” and record a corresponding computer name using the Computer Name Builder below:

3.0 – Set Computer Name
Prerequisites:
 Diagnostic device connected to A/C power adapter, and booted to Windows desktop.
 VAS Diagnostic Tablets: Connect USB mouse and keyboard for easier character inputs.
1. From the Windows desktop, click the Windows Start button:

The “View basic information about your computer” window appears.
4. In the information section entitled “Computer name, domain and workgroup settings”, locate the
existing Computer name: (scroll down to expand window if necessary).
5. To the far right of the computer name, click Change settings:
6. From the System Properties window, select the Computer Name tab and select Change to display
the existing computer name:

7. Place a cursor at the end of the existing Computer name: entry and backspace out all existing
characters:
8. Enter the computer name “built” and recorded on Page 2 into the Computer name field:

ATTENTION!
DO NOT Change the Workgroup designation as displayed in computer name dialog window!
Diagnostic software functions will be adversely affected!

10. Select OK once more to close the applicable dialog box.
A message stating that the device must be rebooted before the changes take effect is displayed.
11. Select OK to restart the device.
