COE SEAT FRAME BOLT LOOSE OR MISSING
SUBJECT VEHICLES: 13MY-16MY COE (Cab over Engine) Trucks (195, 195h)

OVERVIEW:
The following TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) provides replacement instruction for the seat pivot
bolts in the event that one or more loose or missing bolts are found on the optional magnetic
suspension driver’s seat frame.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
- Read and understand all instructions and procedures before you begin the work.
- Read and follow all WARNINGS and NOTICES set forth in this publication. These alerts help to
avoid damage to components, serious personal injury, or both.
- Park the vehicle on a flat, level and solid surface.
- Place the gear shift lever in "Neutral" or "Park".
- Apply the parking brake firmly and confirm parking brake activation.
- Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition switch.
- Always wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes.
- Place wheel chocks in front of and behind all the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving.

VEHICLE PREPARATION
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level and solid surface.

2. Confirm the engine is stopped, the ignition switch is in the off (LOCK) position, and the key is removed.

3. Apply the parking brake.

4. Chock all of the wheels.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTICE: Do not allow the vehicle to be driven for one hour after installing the
replacement seat pivot bolts. The threadlocking compound used on the replacement
seat pivot bolts will take one hour to cure after installing the bolts. If the vehicle is
driven prior to waiting one hour, the seat bolts may loosen again and fall out.
1. Remove the bolt cover from the front inboard side of the driver’s seat frame. Remove the
two bolts which retain the driver’s seat to the floor of the vehicle and retain for reinstallation.
Slide the seat to the forward position and remove the two bolts which retain the rear of the
driver’s seat to the floor. Remove the driver’s seat from the vehicle.

2. Place the seat on a work bench. Set the tension of the adjustment knob to the minimum/soft
position.

3. While using care not to stain or damage the upholstery, flip the seat over on the work bench.
Locate the four pivot bolts under the seat. Remove and discard one of the four bolt, bushing,
and washer combinations (unless missing). Clean the threads of the bolt hole using an 8x1.25
tap. Once the threads have been cleaned, install a new bolt, bushing, and washer. See the
installation order photograph below. Tighten the bolt until snug using a T-40 Torx bit. The final
torque will be applied in the next step. Repeat this process for the remaining 3 pivot bolts on
the seat frame, one at a time. The threads must be cleaned, and a new bolt installed at all four
bolt positions.

4. Tighten the four new pivot bolts to the specified torque.
Specified Torque: 18 lb-ft (25 Nm).

5. Position the driver’s seat into the vehicle. Loosely install the four bolts which retain the
driver’s seat to the floor making certain that the inboard rear bolt is inserted through the seat
belt anchor. See the photograph below. Tighten the four bolts to the specified torque.
Reinstall the cover over the inboard front bolt once the bolts have been tightened to the
specified torque.
WARNING: NEVER install the inboard rear seat frame bolt without first inserting it through the
seat belt anchor. Failure to fasten the seat belt anchor properly may result in serious personal
injury or death in the event of a collision.
Specified Torque: 29 lb-ft (39 Nm)

FINAL INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. To complete this Technical Service Bulletin, review the bulletin and confirm the following:
• The four seat pivot bolts have been replaced and torqued to specification.
• The right rear seat frame bolt is also retaining the seat belt anchor.
• The four bolts which retain the seat assembly to the floor have been torqued to
specification.
• The vehicle is allowed to sit for at least one hour prior to releasing it to the customer to
allow the threadlocking compound sufficient time to cure.

* Reimbursable in accordance within the terms and policies of the Hino Truck limited
warranties.
* When submitting the warranty claim, please document the number of seat frame pivot
bolts which were found to be loose or missing from the seat frame. (i.e. 1 bolt
loose/missing, 2 bolts loose/missing, 3 bolts loose/missing, or 4 bolts loose/missing)
