14” FLUSH MOUNT CONDENSER FANS
SPAL, our supplier of fan motors, has recommended a product improvement with respect to the following condensers and
systems which include 14” surface mount fans, and were manufactured between December 2013 and December 2016:
(A) R60 Rooftop Condenser
(B) RT65 Rooftop System
(C) SC3 Skirt Condenser
(D) SC4 Skirt Condenser
Condensers will have serial numbers between C138137 and C168915
NOTE: For assistance in identifying the above products, please see page 2
The service recommended by SPAL is the installation of a replacement SPAL fan kit for each condenser. The fan kit contains
fans, fuses, use warning label, and in some cases, soft start relays.
This recommended service is intended to enhance durability and longevity as well as further protect SPAL fan motors
incorporated into the condensers from the possibility of overheating, which could result in non-operational condensers or
damage to the unit, and additionally, in the case of rooftop units, damage to the fans due to water incursion.
Your total satisfaction with our products is very important to us, so these enhancements will be at no cost to you for a period

The appropriate condenser fan kit will be installed on the existing condenser per the instructions
below. Affix the provided warning label, showing fuse size, to the fuse holder as shown in the
instructions.
In the case of the SC4, a soft start relay is also to be installed per the instructions below.
In the case of all RT65, if it does not already have one, install soft start relay per the instructions
below.

14” Condenser Fan Fuse Instructions
1. Replace existing fans with the fans provided in the replacement fan kit
2. Remove cap from the waterproof circuit protection module, mounted on the venturi panel (fan panel). (Attached
to the harness). See Figure 1
3. Install a 20 amp fuses directly into the same socket that originally held the 20 or 25 amp fuses. See Figure 2
4. Replace the cap. NOTE: Be sure the cap is seated properly to ensure waterproof seal.
5. Affix supplied proper warning label (showing fuse size 20 AMP) to cap as shown in fig 3.
6. Please document the VIN number of each vehicle retrofitted along with the serial number(s) of the condensers
retrofitted, and fax, e-mail, or send to Trans/Air.
NOTE: Use Trans/Air supplied or Cooper Bussman / Little Fuse equivalent.

Soft Start Relay For all Condensers Except RT65

Disconnect power to the relay board.
Locate orange 10 ga. condenser power wire at the relay board.
Mount the soft start relay near the relay board and the orange 10 ga. wire.
Cut the orange wire at a location that will allow connections to both ends of the cut wire, and the soft start.
Strip the cut wire from the relay board, and crimp to the orange wire of the soft start relay.
Strip the other cut wire (from the condenser) and crimp to the red wire of the soft start relay.
Attach the green wire of the soft start relay to a chassis ground
Re-connect power to the relay board.

Disconnect power to the relay board.
Remove (2) two orange 10 ga. condenser power wires from the relay board, at terminal 12.
Remove the other ends of the (2) two orange 10 ga. wires from the fuse block.
Mount the soft start relay near the relay board.
Attach the orange 10 ga wire to terminal 12 of the relay board.
Attach the green wire of the soft start relay to a chassis ground.
Attach the female connectors of the (2) two red 10 ga. wires to the fuse block tabs at the 20 amp fuses.
Re-connect power to the relay board.
