8.0L LPG Engine and an Allison 2000 Series Product Family Transmission
Introduction:
Freightliner Custom Chassis S2G units with a PSI 8.0L LPG engine and an Allison 2000 Series Product Family
transmission may be susceptible to issues with the Power Takeoff (PTO). In some vocations, PTO operation may
produce a high amount of vibration causing the Transmission Control Module (TCM) to erroneously interpret the
vibration as road speed. The vehicle may then experience a sudden engine speed drop from the preprogrammed
set engine speed 1 or 2 back to idle without being commanded. If the PTO is engaged when the engine speed drop
occurs, the PTO may suddenly disengage.
In the event that this issue is experienced, it may be necessary to update the TCM software. BCD152 and later
software versions incorporate a “filter” to reduce the output speed circuit noise.
Service Channel Procedure:
If this issue occurs, determine if the VIN is included in Table 1.
