Summary
A new type of throttle pedal needs an additional support bracket. The support bracket is installed in Production on vehicles after the VINs given. Before you install a new-type throttle pedal on a vehicle before the VINs given, you must bond a support bracket to the body extrusion. Reason for Version 2 of this Service Bulletin (SB-03-0412V2)
We have issued Version 2 of this Service Bulletin because we have created a kit that includes all the necessary
components and because we have changed the adhesive needed. Changes to this document have a black line against
them in the left margin. Please destroy all copies of SB-03-0412 that you have and replace them with this Service
Bulletin SB-03-0412V2.
Reason for this Service Bulletin (SB-03-0412)
A new type of throttle pedal needs an additional support bracket. The support bracket is installed in Production on
vehicles after the VINs given. Before you install a new-type throttle pedal on a vehicle before the VINs given, you must
bond a support bracket to the body extrusion. If you install a new-type throttle pedal on an earlier vehicle, you must do
the Workshop Procedure that follows also to install a support bracket.
Workshop Procedure
1.
Remove the throttle pedal (refer to Workshop Manual procedure 03.18.AB, AC or AE (as applicable)).
2.
Carefully pull away the NVH material around the lower end of the pedal support, sufficiently to give access to
the working area.
3.
Use abrasive paper to remove the anodising from the mating surface of the support bracket. Also use abrasive
paper to remove the paint from the mating surface of the vehicle body.
4.
Clean the abraded mating surfaces of the support bracket and of the vehicle body with Betaclean 3900. Dry with
a clean fibre-free cloth.
5.
Apply a thin primer layer of Plexus MA300 methacrylate adhesive on the mating surfaces (refer to Figure 1) of the
support bracket and of the vehicle body. Wait two minutes for the adhesive to become tacky.
Note:
The working time of Plexus MA300 - after the two parts are mixed and until the adhesive is no longer
usable - is 4 to 6 minutes. During this time, you must apply the adhesive, attach the support bracket and
install the screws to align the bracket.

Apply an 8 mm bead of Plexus MA300 to the support
bracket where shown by the red-shaded area (refer
to Figure 1).

The throttle pedal engages on three of the four
rivnuts that are put in the body extrusion (refer to
Figure 2). You must put the support bracket in its
correct position around all the rivnuts.

Put the support bracket into position. Install and
tighten the four M6 x 20 screws to hold the support
bracket in position until the adhesive has fully cured
(refer to Figure 3).

Note:

The curing time of Plexus MA300 is 12 to 15 minutes at 23 °C (73 °F). At temperatures below 18 °C (64 °F),
wait for up to 30 minutes for the adhesive to cure fully.
Remove all fixings and washers when the adhesive has fully cured.
10.
Put the NVH material back into position.
11.
Install the throttle pedal (refer to Workshop Manual procedure 03.18. AB, AC or AE (as applicable)).
