Warranty Administrator - Helpful hints for Airbag inflator warranty claim error

Over the past several weeks we have had some inquiries regarding warranty error messages. Please ensure your Warranty Administrators,
Service Managers, and Parts Managers review this informa on.

An error code and explana on will be provided when you have an inflator airbag warranty claim rejected. The following codes/reasons will
require you to provide addi onal informa on to American Honda
prior to approval. These are as follows:
1922 – Serial Number does not exist – Please verify the serial number is correct. If the serial number is correct and please contact our inflator
warranty team to resolve. In most cases the inflator was purchased prior to February. The inflator analyst team will confirm the inflator
informa on and then you will be able to resubmit the claim.
1923 – Serial number not shipped to your loca on – If the inflator serial number was not shipped to your dealership directly contact the inflator
analyst warranty team. American Honda
does not encourage the sharing of controlled parts and considers it an excep on to normal business
prac ces. Please verify with your manager if part was purchased from a dealer, if so include the dealer informa on on your e-mail. The team
will verify the situa on and obtain the necessary informa on. Once informa on has been confirmed you will be able to resubmit the claim.
1924 – Serial number already installed on another VIN – American Honda
must ensure all serial number and VIN rela onships are correct.
Therefore, any duplica on of serial number usage is prohibited. If you are aware that serial number was used for a previous claim, please
include claim number and reason why serial number was not installed for that VIN. The inflator analyst team will work with you to determine the
correct course of ac on.
1926- Replacement part number is not applicable –This error message is sta ng the dealer used the incorrect inflator for that vehicle or used a
part which was in an older service bulle n. The inflator analyst warranty team will verify what situa on is occurring and will provide you with the
correc ve ac on.
1927 – VIN already used for replacement part within 90 day window – Error message is sta ng that an inflator for the same part has been
installed for that VIN in less than 90 day. The inflator analyst warranty team will review the circumstances around the addi onal inflator repair.
Once claim is reviewed the claim will be ready to resubmit.
The following error codes generally can be corrected by the warranty administrator.
1921 – Missing serial number – American Honda
requires a serial number for all inflators installed. If the serial number is missing you will need
to obtain the correct serial number installed and submit this on the claim. Occasionally, a complete airbag will be installed instead of an inflator
(prior approval needed) if this is the case please file the claim as a goodwill claim and include the serial number.
1925 – VIN does not exist at AHM – Generally this is a non USA VIN
1928 – VIN number is required – Generally the VIN informa on has been le blank. Include the VIN and the claim should submit for approval.
1929 – Replacement part number is required for this claim – Generally the part number has not been included in the claim. Please provide part
number and the claim will be paid.
1930 – Mul ple controlled parts not allowed – Only one controlled part number is allowed per claim.
1931 – Replacement part not matching serial numbers part number – The error message should provide the correct part number. Enter the
recommended part number and warranty claim should be approved.
009 – Template claim number does not match part number – Generally you can correct the error by using the correct template number. Please
use this chart shown below sec on to help you iden fy correct template number.
