NEWMAR
CORPORATION HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN SPECIFIC MOTOR HOMES. THIS RECALL IS A RESULT OF INFORMATION SUPPLIED TO NEWMAR BY MORRYDE INTERNATIONAL, INC. NHTSA #: 15V 642 T/CA #: 2015-460 ON CERTAIN 2016 BAY STAR SPORT, BAY STAR, AND CANYON STAR MOTORHOMES, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE AND PEDAL MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY REINSTALLED AFTER CHASSIS MODIFICATIONS WERE COMPLETED. THE PARK BRAKE SYSTEM MAY NOT PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING, EVEN WITH THE PARK BRAKE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED. THE PARK BRAKE SYSTEM MAY ALSO REMAIN PARTIALLY ENGAGED WHEN THE PEDAL IS RELEASED, CAUSING THE BRAKES HOES TO DRAG ON THE DRUM AND POTENTIALLY OVERHEAT THE BRAKES. THESE ISSUES WOULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH RESULTING IN PHYSICAL INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY.

Description
Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes.
This recall is a result of information supplied to Newmar by MORryde International, Inc.
On certain 2016 Bay Star Sport, Bay Star, and Canyon Star motorhomes, the emergency brake cable and pedal
may not have been properly reinstalled after chassis modifications were completed.
Issue: The park brake system may not prevent the vehicle from moving, even with the park brake pedal fully
depressed. The park brake system may also remain partially engaged when the pedal is released, causing the brake
shoes to drag on the drum and potentially overheat the brakes. These issues would increase the risk of a crash
resulting in physical injury and/or damage to property.
Recommended Action
Correction: Authorized service centers will replace the parking brake foot pedal assembly. To obtain necessary
parts and authorization, contact the Newmar Dealer/Technical Support Department at 1-866-290-5371. The
parts will be shipped by MORryde once authorization has been provided.

This notice is sent to you as a Newmar Dealer in accordance with the requirements of the National
Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to
motor vehicle safety exists in specific Newmar recreational vehicles.
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires that each vehicle which is subject to a recall
campaign of this type must be satisfactorily repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has
tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days after tender of a vehicle is prima
facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. If the condition is not properly repaired
within a reasonable time, the owners may be entitled to an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle at
no charge or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation.
To avoid providing these problematic solutions, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an
appointment with each owner and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. Vehicle owners are being
notified of this recall and are instructed to contact Newmar Corporation if you do not remedy the
condition within five days of the mutually agreed upon service date. If the condition is not remedied
within a reasonable time, they are instructed on how to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.

7/8/2015 and 9/14/2015.

This notice is sent to you as a Newmar Dealer in accordance with the requirements of the Canada Motor
Vehicle Safety Act. Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety
exists in specific Newmar recreational vehicles.
Each vehicle which is subject to a recall campaign of this type must be satisfactorily repaired within a
reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Parking Brake Control
Removal
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
1.
Release the tension on the parking brake control. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Tension Release.
NOTE: Before removing bolts, make sure the parking brake control tension release pin is firmly and properly
in position.
2.
Remove the 4 parking brake control bolts and position for access to connections.
• To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

Remove the parking brake control.
1. Disconnect the parking brake switch electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake control.
3. Disconnect the parking brake cable housing from the parking brake control.
Installation
NOTE: After installation, no parking brake cable adjustment is necessary. The parking brake cable
adjustment is automatic.
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
2. Transfer parts as necessary.

Parking Brake Cable Tension Release
NOTE: This procedure is for foot actuated parking brake system only. The hand actuated parking brake
system has no tension release procedure.
1.
With the help of an assistant, position and hold the parking brake control sector in position.
1. From under the vehicle with an assistant, pull down on the front cable at the cable-to-cable
union until the parking brake control sector rotates to its stop.
2. Insert a 4 mm (0.15 in) x 150 mm (5.9 in) retainer pin into the indicated holes to hold the spring
tension on the control sector.

2. NOTE: When reloading tension, make sure that the cable-to-cable union is connected to the front and
rear cable before removing the brake control retaining pin and that the cable tension is reloaded
slowly.
Disconnect the front cable at the cable-to-cable union by pushing the cable into and out of the union.
