Fault Code 3375 and/or 3376 Occurrences on ISX15 CM2350 X101 Engines in Volvo® VNL

Issue
ISX15 CM2350 X101 engines installed in Volvo® VNL chassis are experiencing occurrences
of Fault Code 3375 and/or 3376. Other fault codes that may be in the engine control module
(ECM) for this issue could be 1981, 1921, 1922, or 2639. After troubleshooting and inspecting
the diesel particulate filter (DPF), the inlet face is found to be plugged with insulation fibers. It
has been determined that the fibers are migrating from the exhaust flex pipe before the diesel
oxidation catalyst (DOC). This part is supplied by Volvo®. Reference Figures 1, 2, and 3 in the
Resolution section to view the insulation fibers clogging the inlet face of the DPF.
On April 1, 2013, Volvo® introduced a flex pipe with internal insulation into production. Trucks
built prior to this date were built with a flex pipe that did not have internal insulation. Starting
January 6, 2014, Volvo® implemented a new flex pipe without insulation into production to
correct the insulation migration. Any truck built between 1 April 2013 and 6 January 2014 can
be affected by this issue.
The new flex pipe, Volvo® Part Number 22307703, is available at Volvo® Parts Distribution
Centers. Reference a local Volvo® dealer for ordering the new flex pipe.
This is a malfunction of an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component and repair
claims should be filed through the appropriate Volvo® Dealer channels. The Volvo dealer
should contact their Volvo Warranty Administrator to file the claim or answer questions.

To determine if the DPF is plugged by fibers from the flex pipe, verify the following:




Review the figures in the Resolution section and compare to the inlet face of the
removed DPF
Verify the build date of the truck is on or after April 1, 2013.

Resolution
Remove the exhaust flex pipe and install a new flex pipe, Volvo® Part Number 22307703,
according to Volvo® Installation Service Bulletin 252-35 (PV776-89133416).
Go to the Volvo® Service Portal and search for Installation Service Bulletin 252-35. Click the
link below. Make sure to select Intermediate Exhaust Pipe, Replacement, Cummins, VNL.
Reference a local Volvo® dealer for information on parts required to install the new flex pipe.

Remove the DOC. Inspect and clean the DOC if any fibers are still present. Use the following
procedure in the ISX15 CM2350 X101 Service Manual, Service Bulletin 4310641. Refer to
Procedure 011-049 in Section 11.
Replace the DPF. Use the following procedure in the ISX15 CM2350 X101 Service Manual,
Service Bulletin 4310641. Refer to Procedure 011-041 in Section 11.
This is a malfunction of an OEM component and repair claims should be filed through the
appropriate Volvo® Dealer channels. The Volvo dealer should contact their Volvo Warranty
Administrator to file the claim or answer questions.
