FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED BELOW TO REPLACE THE FUEL DOOR ACTUATOR WITH AN IMPROVED PART AND RESOLVE THE CONCERN. KIA

FUEL DOOR ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT (SA 217)
This bulletin describes the procedure to replace the fuel door actuator of some 2013MY
Optima (QF) vehicles, produced from February 1, 2013 ~ March 14, 2013, which may exhibit
an inoperable fuel door actuator. Follow the procedure outlined below to replace the fuel door
actuator with an improved part and resolve the concern. Kia
is requesting the completion of
this Service Action on all affected vehicles. Before conducting the procedure, verify the vehicle
is included in the list of affected VINs.
NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed
during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the
warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage>
Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service
Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall>
Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1.
Partially remove the trunk weatherstrip from the left side of the trunk.
CAUTION
Be sure to wear disposable gloves
throughout this procedure to
avoid soiling the interior trim
panels.
2.
Remove
the
trunk
cargo
attachment hook, as shown.

3.
Use a non-marring trim panel tool to
remove the trunk garnish plastic rivets.
CAUTION
Use a non-marring trim removal
tool (such as Snap-on® P/N PBN5
or equivalent) to avoid damaging
trim pieces.

Push the fuel door release handle
through the slot in the trunk trim
garnish, as shown.
5.
Open fuel door and remove the fuel
cap.
6.
Use a 10mm socket to remove two (2)
bolts securing fuel door actuator trim
bracket.
Tightening Torque: 33.6 ~ 51.6 in-lb
3.7 ~ 5.8 Nm)

Install the new fuel door actuator by
reversing the removal steps.

Reinstall
all
other
removed
components by reversing the removal
steps.
12.
Test the fuel door actuator to ensure
proper operation.
