Detroit Axle Sway Bar Mounting

Issue Involved
Daimler Trucks North America LLC, on behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary, Detroit
Diesel Corporation, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety
exists on specific Freightliner Custom Chassis motorhome chassis manufactured from
March 10, 2015, through January 14, 2016, with certain Detroit front axles.

On certain vehicles, the front sway bar mounting bracket may not fit flush on the axle
mounting surface, causing the mounting bolts to bend or loosen. Loose mounting
fasteners could cause the sway bar to detach, resulting in higher than expected
vehicle sway or reduced handling, increasing the possibility of a crash. The sway bar
mounting will be modified on affected vehicles.

Correct front axle suspension I-beam mounting surfaces became effective with front
axles manufactured in Detroit, Michigan, after December 23, 2015. Any Model 3
front axle manufactured in Detroit, Michigan, between February 23, 2015, and
December 23, 2015, will need the front axle suspension I-beam mounting surface
repaired and sway bar mounting brackets and bolts replaced. Note that some axles
built within this time frame may already have been inspected and/or repaired, and
therefore excluded from this Safety Recall.
There are approximately 655 vehicles affected by this Safety Recall.

Detroit will notify owners of equipment incorporating axles identified with this Safety
Recall. A copy of the owner letter that will be used by Detroit is enclosed with this
Safety Recall bulletin.

Pealer campajgn Responsibility
Detroit authorized Detroit Axle repair facilities are to service all axles subject to this
Safety Recall. Safety Recall 16R1 is to be performed at no charge to owners on all
affected axles under the provisions of this Safety Recall.
Please use the appropriate steps, noted below, for indicating that Safety Recall
16R1 has been completed.

Daimler Trucks North America Vehicles

Check the base label (Form WAR259) to see if Safety Recall 16R1 has been
completed. The base label is usually located on the passenger-side door about
30 cm (12 inches) below the door latch. If Safety Recall 16R1 has been
completed, no further work is needed. If base label is not located on the
passenger-side door, please affix label (Form WAR259) 30 cm (12 inches) from
the door latch.

Upon completion of Safety Recall 16R1, clean a spot on the base label (Form
WAR259), write the Safety Recall Number (16R1) on a blank, black completion
sticker (Form WAR261 ), and attach it to the base label.

which have corresponding parts list contained in two different tables. Populations A
and B share the same parts list. Population C has its own parts list. Use the
vehicle serial number list to determine which population the specific vehicle belongs
to. Only order the specific parts needed for that vehicle. Repairs on all vehicles will
require parts from both Tables 1 and 2. The reference drawings can be found on
