Some 2010 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with the 2TR-FE engine may exhibit a front
exhaust pipe catalyst rattle noise and/or MIL "ON" condition with OTC P0420 (Catalyst System

Repair Procedure
1. Test drive and verify that an abnormal rattle noise is heard while accelerating.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist with the engine running.

3. Increase the engine speed and listen to the catalytic converter section on the front exhaust pipe
assembly for a rattle noise.
CAUTION
Avoid contacting any part of the exhaust system - it is VERY HOT.

4. Did the noise appear to be the loudest at the catalytic converter section of the front exhaust
pipe assembly?
• YES -
Continue to step 5.
• NO - This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
5. Replace the front exhaust pipe assembly.
