SUBJECT:
MIL Illumination Due to P2000, P2AOO and/or P2A01
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves verifying all service bulletins related to high sooting issues have been
properly addressed, inspecting both Oxygen (02) sensors and either cleaning the sensors
or replacing sensors, and installing an 02 Sensor Shield on the exhaust pipe in the area of
the FRONT 02 sensor.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 6.7L Cummins diesel engine
(sales code ETJ) built before August 2, 2009 (MDH0802XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customer may experience MIL illumination. Further investigation by the technician may
find one or more of the following DTC(s) present:

P2000 - NOX Absorber Efficiency Below Threshold - Bank 1.
P2AOO - 02 Sensor 1/1 Circuit Performance.
P2A01 - 02 Sensor 1/2 Circuit Performance.

DIAGNOSIS:
Complete a Diesel Diagnostic Worksheet per instructions in Service Bulletin 18-045-11
Dated October 19, 2011 and U.S. Warranty Bulletin D-11-55 Dated October, 2011 . All
DTC's need to be recorded on the WRO and DTC's other than the ones listed above may
require additional diagnosis and repair after completing this Bulletin.
02 sensor fouling may be related to other components that can cause increase sooting .

NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with an 02 sensor wrap, verify proper 02 sensor
wrap installation, (Fig. 1). If the 02 sensor wrap has been installed properly
and is not damaged or if the vehicle is equipped with an 02 sensor blanket
and is not damaged, this bulletin will not address the symptom/condition.

On 2007 - 2009 Model Year vehicles, verify that Recall J35 has been completed .

NOTE: New EVIC messages were made available with some CCN updates.
ECM (PCM) software commands when and what the CCN will display on
the EVIC regarding engine system and exhaust aftertreatment system
messages. The ECM and CCN software must be up to date (correct
software level) in order for the new EVIC messages to display as
designed.
•

IF making a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and/or turbocharger repair(s) in
conjunction with this service bulletin, ensure EGR system , Tu rbo, Intake, Charge Air
Cooler, and other sensors are inspected for proper operation. Vehicles that have
excess soot build up should have the source of the soot build up diagnosed and

repaired prior to proceeding with this bulletin.
Verify proper maintenance has been performed, including verifying the condition and
brand of the fuel and air filter (Mopar recommended).
• Check Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system for restriction which may cause oil
infiltration into turbo and intake system.
If any of the DTC's listed in the SYMPTOM/CONDITION are present and the conditions
listed above have been met, perform the REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
2. If the vehicle is already equipped with a wrap or blanket but this bulletin is being
performed because they are damaged, remove the damaged wrap or blanket from the
exhaust pipe.
3. Remove both upstream and downstream Oxygen (02) sensors.
4. Remove the exhaust pipe. Refer to the procedures identified in
DealerCONNECT>TechCONNECT>Service lnfo>11 - Exhaust System>PIPE,
Exhaust>Removal>6.7L DIESEL for additional information.
5. Install heat shield (p/n 68102274AA). Refer to the procedures identified in the
Instruction Sheet (p/n K6855747) for additional information .
6. Install the exhaust pipe. Refer to the procedures identified in
DealerCONNECT>TechCONNECT>Service lnfo>11 - Exhaust System>PIPE,
Exhaust>lnstallation>6.7L DIESEL for additional information.
7. Inspect both 02 sensors to ensure that the latest sensors are installed in the vehicle.
02 sensors that have p/n 05149263AA (or later) scribed on the sensor, (Fig. 2) are the
newer style sensor. If it is difficult to read the part number, the newer style sensor can
easily be identified by the soot shield design on the sensor, (Fig. 3).

If the oxygen sensor is not scribed with p/n 05149263AA or newer or if the soot shield
appears as the older style soot shield (as seen in (Fig. 3)), replace the oxygen sensors
with p/n 05149263AA. If the oxygen sensors are to be reused, clean the 02 sensor
using shop air only. Do not use any solvents or cleaners when cleaning the 02
sensor. Torque to 41 N•m (30 ft. lbs). Connect wiring to both of the Oxygen (02)
sensors.
