Suspension 'Knock' / 'Creak' Noise From Rear of Vehicle

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: A suspension 'knock' / 'creak' noise may be heard from the rear of the vehicle when going over
bumps or when maneuvering at slow speeds.
Cause: This may be caused by the rear spring / shock absorber.
Action: Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION:
1. Remove the rear right shock absorber / coil spring assembly (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 204-02,
steps 1-5 only).

NOTE: After cutting, discard the
remainder of the isolator sleeve.

Using one of the new isolator sleeves, cut at the
second hole from the end of the isolator sleeve to
produce an approximately 90-degree spacer
(approximately 100mm in length on the outer
circumference); discard the remainder (larger
portion) of the isolator sleeve.

NOTE: Make sure when fitting the spacer
to carefully butt it up to the existing sleeve.
Install the newly-created spacer to the coil spring,
butting it up against the existing sleeve as shown.

4.

NOTE: When installing the new isolator
sleeve, make sure the small end of the taper
is closest to the end of the existing sleeve.

NOTE: The spacer must be removed and
used for the procedure on the rear left coil
spring.
Install a new full sleeve, using the spacer to
ensure that there is a 90-degree gap between the
end of the existing sleeve and the start of the new
isolator sleeve as shown.

5. Correct installed condition.

6. Install the rear right shock absorber / coil spring assembly (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, Section 204-02,
reversing steps 1-5).
7. Repeat steps 1-6 to the rear left shock absorber / coil spring assembly.
