Customer statement I workshop findings
The car was specified with iPad holder. When delivered the only commercially available iPad, iPad
Air, does not fit

Technical background
Apple changed iPad specification between car order entry and customer receiving car. The only
Apple tablet available at car POI , iPad Air, does not fit the iPad holder in the car

Production change
Cars built to accept iPad Air

Measure
This conversion can be offered to the original owners of the vehicles detailed in the Vehicle data
section of this document
To convert picnic table iPad 4 holder to accept iPad Air
Note: The procedure details the operation being performed on the left hand picnic table . It is
expected that both iPad holders are converted during the same visit
Note: When removing the trim pieces they will be deformed and therefore not reusable, new trim
parts are supplied
Note: The eight countersunk alien screws will be tight and therefore it is very important to use a high
quality 'as new' 2mm alien key such as Stahlwille or Snap-On product this will ensure optimum
contact between tool and fastener

Ensure a suitable battery charger is correctly connected to the vehicle electrical system for the
duration of this procedure

A selection of trim removal tools as well as a high quality, as new, 2 mm alien key are required .
The trim parts are secured by 3M double sided adhesive tape (see Figure 2)

Switch on the ignition

Open the relevant picnic table using the iPad picnic table open and close button (1) (see Figure
3)

Deploy the iPad holder using the iPad holder open and close button (2) (see Figure 3)

Remove iPad 4 if fitted

14. Assemble the new hinge to the new iPad holder (see Figure 9)

15. Partially position the new iPad holder and make the electrical connection. Note: the connection
is made with the harness plug set at approximately 30° , once the plug is engaged at 30° then
the plug is rotated down through the 30° to 0° horizontal thus locking the plug to the holder
(see Figure 10)

18. Ensure the harness is correctly positioned before securing the new iPad holder with eight new
countersunk alien screws , ensure all the alien screws are flush once tightened (see Figure 12)

19. DO NOT FIT ANY NEW TRIM PARTS AT THIS POINT. With the vehicle ignition still switched
on raise the iPad holder using the iPad holder open and close button (2) (see Figure 3). Slide
and insert an iPad Air into the holder and ensure it fully docs with the holder. Confirmation of
successful docking is indicated by the battery charging symbol being displayed on the iPad Air
screen (see Figure 13)
20. Remove the iPad Air. Using a proprietary solvent (isopropanol or similar) clean both front and
rear of the iPad holder in preparation for fitting the new trimmed parts

21 . Fit the front trim first. Remove the adhesive protective tape before first sliding the new trim
down behind the lower trim (1) before final moving the trim into position on the iPad holder (2).
Once in position whilst supporting the assembly push the trim onto the holder to enable the
adhesive pads to fully engage with the structure (see Figure 14)
