Introduction

Some 2013 model year tC RS 8.0 vehicles may exhibit excessive water accumulation inside the
two-piece rear spoiler after heavy rain and/or snow. The rear spoiler has been modified to address
this condition.

* This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months
or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this
bulletin.

Repair Procedure
1. Remove interior trim.
A. Open the lift gate.

B. Place blankets inside the cargo area andthe ‘Figure 1.

C. Remove the trim panel across the inside of the Figure 2.

2. Remove the spoiler.

A. With the lift gate open, loosen and remove the 4 nuts on the studs. Utilize the 4 access holes
in the inner panel for the removal of these nuts.

B. Close the lift gate.

C. Remove the rear spoiler making sure the lift Figure 6.
gate does NOT get damaged. Discard the rear
spoiler once removed.

NOTICE

If it is necessary to pry against the tailgate
to remove the spoiler, apply protective tape
around the rear spoiler as shown.

3. Prepare the deck lid for spoiler installation.
A. Clean the deck lid of any tape residue.

(1) Using a heat gun, lightly heat the spoiler mounting surface.
Temperature Range: 104 — 140°F (40 — 60°C)

NOTICE

Heating the surface of the vehicle excessively will damage the finish of the vehicle.
Use caution to NOT overheat the deck lid.

(2) Remove the double-sided tape from the deck lid.
(3) Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with soap and water.

B. The trunk lid where the spoiler attaches must be cleaned with
3M™ Prep Solvent-70 and a lint-free cloth.

C. After cleaning, carefully apply 3M™ Ultrapro™ Figure 7.
Autobody Sealant to all 6 drilled hole edges.

The trunk and spoiler should be a minimum of
60°F (16°C) for proper set-up of adhesive tape.
Use a hot air blower to heat the surface if the
temperature is below 60°F (16°C).

4. Prepare spoiler for installation.

A. Screw a white plastic grommet on each of the = Figure 8.
2 outer metal studs 2 turns as shown.

B. At all locations where there is a tape pull, Figure 9.
lift the end of the liner, fold it back onto the
exterior surfaces, and hold the tape pull in
place with masking tape as shown.

NOTE

Do NOT completely remove the tape liner
at this time.

5. Attach the spoiler to the lift gate.

A. Position the spoiler over the lift gate with the — Figure 11.
drill holes aligned to the spoiler studs.

B. Lower the spoiler down into place and press Figure 12.
down on the tips to fully engage the 2 end
plastic grommets.

C. Open the lift gate and loosely install the 4 nuts to the studs. Do NOT tighten these nuts
completely, but get them far enough on the studs so that the spoiler will not come off. There
are 4 tool access holes in the inner panel for installation of these nuts.

D. Close the lift gate and, while carefully flexing — Figure 13.
the spoiler out away from the lift gate painted
surface, slowly pull each tape liner segment
from between the spoiler and the lift gate as
shown. Repeat this until all tape liners have
been removed.

E. Press the spoiler against the lift gate working
across the back and then across the front
edge as shown.

F. Open the lift gate and tighten the 4 flange nuts. Using a torque wrench, tighten the nuts.

Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in*Ibf)

6. Install the interior trim in the reverse order of removal. Be sure that all the panel clips are

engaged upon reassembly.
