ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Introduction
Safety Recall CSJ ("2006 - 2011 RAV4; Rear Lower Suspension Arm No. 1") involves inspection
of the Rear Suspension Arm No. 1 for the presence of rust, replacement of the suspension arm if
necessary, and application of an epoxy material to disable the adjustment function of the suspension
arm . Therefore, any vehicle which has had Safety Recall CSJ completed will no longer have a
rear wheel toe adjustment.
If a vehicle exhibits a steering wheel off-center cond ition or rear toe alignment out of specification
after Safety Recall CSJ has been completed , follow the procedure outlined in th is bulletin to address
this condition.

This bulletin applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs
shown below.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
• This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months
or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date .
• Op Code SU1401: This warranty is in effect for 12 months or 20,000 miles , whichever
occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date .
For New York: This warranty is in effect for 24 months or 18,000 miles, whichever occurs first,
from the vehicle's in-service date.
• Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

• If the design is the Adjusting Tube style (Figure 1), proceed with th is bulletin . Go to step 2.
• If the design is the Adjusting Cam style (Figure 2) , this bulletin does NOT apply.
Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
2. Check for completion of Safety Recall CSJ :
"2006 - 2011 RAV4; Rear Lower Suspension
Arm No. 1."

3. Drive the vehicle, check the handling condition , and verify any complaints of steering wheel
off-center.

NOTICE
When making a sharp turn or turns onto an alignment rack, tension or torsion on the suspension
bushings and other components may cause measured values to initially appear outside of
specification . Before checking the alignment, make sure the pins have been pulled on the
alignment rack rear slip plates and the suspension has been jounced several times to ensure the
suspension is correctly settled before measuring alignment values.

4. Place the vehicle on an alignment rack and
confirm the rear wheel alignment condition .

5. If the rear toe alignment is out of specification on either side, inspect the rear suspension for
damage or bent parts. Replace any damaged components. If steering wheel is off-center
and rear toe is OK, go to step 7.
6. Loosen the nuts and bolts on the Rear Suspension Arm No. 1 on both sides and jounce
the vehicle.
A. If the rear toe alignment is within specification , tighten the nuts and bolts on the Rear
Suspension Arm No. 1.
Torque: Bolt: 90 N*m (918 kgf*cm, 66 ft*lbf)
Torque: Nut: 100 N*m (1,020 kgf*cm, 74 ft*lbf)
NOTICE
Turn the bolt to tighten the nut on the rear suspension member side. Do NOT turn the nut.

8 . If the rear toe alignment is still out of specification on either side, replace the Rear Suspension
Arm No. 1 and complete campaign CSJ again for any replaced rear suspension arm .
NOTE
If the bolt on the rear suspension member side has excessive corrosion or was damaged
during removal, replace the bolt.

7. If the rear wheel alignment is within specification but the steering wheel is off-center, perform a
thrust line alignment.
Torque: Front Tie Rod Lock Nuts: 55.5 N*m (566 kgf*cm , 41 ft*lbf)

8. Drive the vehicle to verify steering wheel is centered and there is no abno rmal pull , noise,
or vibration .
