THIS TSB SUPERSEDES TSB 12-01-038 TO INCLUDE RETAIL VEHICLES.

Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail
delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair .
When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty
Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns.
Description: Some 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0T vehicles may exhibit a noise emanating from the
in-tank fuel pump during operation . Follow the service procedure outlined in this bulletin to
replace part of the fuel pump assembly with a "Fuel Pump Assist Kit" to address this condition .
Applicable Vehicles:
• 2013 MY Genesis Coupe (BK) vehicles equipped with 2.0L Turbo engines
• Produced from SOP through 8/30/2012 .

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Place the ignition switch in the OFF position, and
then open the trunk .

2.

Remove the trunk trim (A) .

3.

Remove the trunk Styrofoam mounting clips (B).

4.

Remove the trunk Styrofoam (C) .

Remove the rear seat cushion mounting bolt (D).
Tightening Torque :
32.6-43.3 lb-ft (44.2-58 .8 Nm , 4 .5-6.0 kgf.m)

Remove the rear seat cushion (E) by lifting the
front of rear seat cushion.

NOTICE

Take extra care to prevent damaging or
scratching the rear seat cushion or the
vehicle interior/paint during removal from
the vehicle cabin and upon reinstallation.

7.

Remove the fuel pump module.
a. Loosen and remove the fuel pump cover
mounting screws (F) .

Avoid breathing gasoline fumes .
Wear safety glasses and protective
gloves.

b. Lift the fuel pump cover and disconnect the
fuel pump connector (G) to fully remove .
c. With the fuel pump electrical connector
disconnected, start the engine and let it run at
idle until the fuel pressure is depleted and the
engine stops running.
Place the ignition switch in the OFF position .

d.

e. Disconnect the fuel supply tube connector (H)
and the fuel transfer tube connector (I) .

NOTICE

Some residual fuel pressure may still be
present inside the fuel supply tube. Cover
the connector area with a shop towel when
disconnecting to absorb any fuel released.

f.

Remove the fuel pump assembly mounting
bolts (J).

g. Remove the fuel pump fixing plate (K).

h. Remove the fuel pump module (L).

NOTICE

Fuel held inside the reservoir and filter
housing portion of the fuel pump module
may spill out. Place a shop towel beneath it
to absorb any dripping fuel and prevent
spilling to the vehicle interior surfaces.

Once outside , drain the remaining fuel
contents trapped inside the fuel pump module
by inverting it over an engine drain pan .

Install the fuel pump assist kit to the removed
fuel pump module.

NOTICE

Before disassembling the fuel pump
module, adding index marks to align the
reservoir cup and fuel pump/filter module
may help facilitate the reassembly process.

a. Cut the zip tie (M) that holds the fuel pump
wires together.

b. Disconnect the fuel pump and sender
connectors. (N)

c. Undo the fuel pump to top plate pipe fixing
clip (0).

d. Remove the fuel pump to top plate pipe fitting
(P).

e. Undo the locks (Q) of the fuel pump plate
stanchions, and then remove the fuel pump
plate from the fuel pump module.

f.

Undo the locks (R) , and then separate the
reservoir cup (S) from the fuel pump/filter
module (T) .

g. Remove the fuel pump assist circuit from the
fuel pump module by undoing the lock (U) .

h. Remove the spring (V) from the removed
plate assembly.
• Reuse the spring for new plate assembly.
• Discard the old plate assembly.

Install the removed spring (V) to the new
plate until a "click" sound is heard .

NOTICE

Be sure to install the spring to the correct
stanchion of the new plate. Spring should
be installed to the stanchion that is farthest
away from the connector body of the plate.

Install smaller (7.8MM ID) new 0-ring (W) to
the new assist pump.
• Discard the old 0-ring .

k. Install larger (9.8MM ID) new 0-ring (X) to
the fuel filter outlet port where the top plate

pipe fitting (P) will connect to.
• Discard the old 0-ring.

Connect the top plate pipe fitting (P) to the
fuel filter outlet port and then install a new clip
(Y) to secure it.

m. Bundle the pump and sender wiring together
with a zip tie strap (Z), and then cut off the
excess portion of the strap.

n. Install a new packing (ZZ) to the underside of
the top plate with the inner ridge facing down .

o. Reinstall the remaining portion of the fuel
pump module and the vehicle interior in the
reverse order of removal.

NOTICE

Be sure to install all electrical connectors
and fuel supply connectors by pushing it
fully until a "click" is heard to confirm
positive lock of the connection.

9.

Verify repair.
~ Check all electrical connection for positive contact.
~ Check all fuel tube connectors for any leaks.
~ Confirm all interior parts are installed correctly.
~ Confirm no Check Engine Light and clear any pending OTC related to procedure.
~ Confirm proper engine operation .
