BEFORE STARTING THE REPAIR:

1. Tension from the torsion bars inside the roof (Fig 1) can cause rivets on the outside corners to shear off when closing the roof.

The rivets that need to be replaced are located at the front and the rear corners of the trailer above the marker lights (Fig 2 & 3)
Some trailers may have a single rivet a corner/s (Fig 2), while other trailers may have two rivets at a corner/s. ( Fig 3)
TSB provides INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLACING A SINGLE RIVET, and INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLACING TWO RIVETS

Regardless of whether there is a single rivet or two rivets, two (2)screws must be installed at each of the 4 corners.

2. Begin by raising the roof of the trailer (Fig 4). Sidewalls should be left folded down as shown.

Fig 5 shows the screw and the nut that will be used to replace the rivets.
INSTRUCTIONS TO REPLACE TWO RIVETS IN A CORNER

3. Select a corner to start on (Fig 6) shows the right rear corner rivets that will be removed.

Both rivets will be drilled out and replaced with screws & nuts (Fig 5). Rivets should be drilled out and replaced one at a time.
Use the 3/16" drill bit to drill out one of the rivets (Fig 7 & 8).

4. Once the rivet is drilled out (Fig 8), take one of the 5/8" x 10-24 black truss head screws (Fig 5) and insert it into the hole (Fig 9).

Have a helper install a 10-24 lock nut (Fig 5) on the screw inside the trailer, and hold it with a pair of pliers or vice grips (Fig 10).
Tighten the nut from outside the trailer using the screw gun with the #2 bit.
Now drill out the second rivet, insert a truss head screw into the hole, and secure it with a 10-24 lock nut in the same manner.
Repeat this for any of the corners that have two rivets in them. Fig 11 shows both nuts installed inside the trailer.

5. Fig 12 shows the screws installed from outside the trailer.
Fig 13 indicates 2 screws go in each corner on the back of the trailer (for a total of 4).
Fig 14 indicates 2 screws go in each corner on the front of the trailer (for a total of 4).

INSTRUCTIONS TO REPLACE A SINGLE RIVET IN A CORNER

Rivet will be drilled out for
1 hole location

2"- 2-1/4"

6. If there are corners that have only one rivet (Fig 15), that rivet will determine the first hole location.

If the rivet is located out away from the corner (Fig 15), then the 2nd hole must be drilled in towards the corner (Fig 16).
The two holes should be spaced approximately 2" to 2-1/4" apart. Refer to Fig 17 for hole location.
NOTE: HOLES MUST BE IN LINE WITH EACH OTHER.

7. Leave the single rivet in place, and drill out the 2nd hole location first. (Fig 18).

Insert a screw into the hole, attach a nut to the screw on the inside of the trailer (refer to Step 4 above).
Drill out the rivet using the 3/16" bit, (Fig 19) insert a screw into the hole, and secure with a 10-24 nut as described previously.
Fig 20 shows both screws installed.

8. If the rivet is close to the corner (Fig 21), then the 2nd hole location will be out away from the corner (Fig 22).

The two holes should be spaced approximately 2" to 2-1/4" apart. Refer to Fig 23 for hole location.
NOTE: HOLES MUST BE IN LINE WITH EACH OTHER.
As in Step 7 above, drill out the 2nd hole location first (Fig 23) leaving the rivet in place for now.
Insert a screw and secure it with a nut on the inside of the trailer.
Then drill out the rivet, install the second screw and nut.
9. Repeat Steps 6, 7 or 8 depending on how many corners have a single rivet and the location of that rivet to the corner.

NOTE: Some trailers may have a combination of single and double rivets in the corners.
10. There should be a total of 8 screws installed in the trailer when complete. (4 in the front of the trailer, and 4 in the rear of the trailer)

When all screws are installed, close the roof structure, and latch it down.
