Condition
Engine software installed for identified chassis did not include programming to prevent excessive fan ON/OFF
cycling. Campaign E052 provides for corrected software and replacement of fan clutch linings that may have
been damaged as a result of OE programming.

Chassis Affected
Select T660s, T700s, T800s and W900s built between 01/16/12 – 02/15/12.

Action
Service all chassis affected that enter your dealership, even if the customer has no issue with the chassis.
Use the procedure below. Review DWC or SIR online systems to verify that campaign “E052” is still open or
already completed prior to performing this repair.
NOTE: Chassis affected are, in most cases, so new that Kenworth does not have customer’s names and

addresses in our system. Please contact your customers or check your lot for these chassis.

Warranty
Through Basic Vehicle Warranty, Kenworth will pay for parts at dealer net, plus applicable mark-up, and labor
to perform the procedure as appropriate. See Quick Claim summary, following. Refer to the chassis list to
identify which are equipped with 2-speed or ON/OFF fan hubs.
E052a: For chassis with 2-speed fan hub; 0.7 to upload PRS files (no clutch inspection necessary – see
Background for explanation).
E052b: For chassis with ON/OFF fan hub and inspection found no excessive fan clutch wear; includes
1.0 hours labor for PRS file and clutch inspection.
E052c: For chassis with ON/OFF fan hub and inspection found excessive fan clutch wear, includes 3.1
hours labor for PRS file, inspection, and lining R&R.

Description
Fan clutch liner kit

Background
Without engine programming protections, certain operating conditions can create unnecessarily rapid and
repetitive fan engagements. Chassis listed were manufactured without protections and this campaign corrects
that deficiency.
Additionally, rapid cycling of the ON/OFF style clutch can result in excessive clutch facing wear and/or
deterioration. The 2-speed style clutch will engage slowly enough in these conditions so that it does not
become excessively worn or deteriorated.
Campaign E052 considers the potential for ON/OFF clutch facing wear and compensates for inspection and, if
necessary, replacing clutch discs.

All chassis listed require PRS file updates. See the E052 Software Procedure attachment. For chassis
identified as “2-speed” on the chassis list attachment, no further repair is necessary. File Quick Claim
E052a for payment and to record completion of this campaign.
If chassis is listed as “ON/OFF”, fan clutch facing inspection is required. Refer to the E052 Borg Warner
Fan Clutch Inspection attachment for instruction.

a. If inspection reveals no excessive wear, no further repair is necessary. File Quick Claim E052b.
b. If inspection reveals excessive wear, replace clutch discs per standard procedures and file Quick
Claim E052c
