General Information
Some Century Class, Columbia, and Coronado vehicles may develop cracks on the driver-side door frame at
the door check mounting area, due to vehicle age and use. See Fig. 1. If cracks are present at the door check
mounting location, use the procedure below to repair the door frame.

Procedure
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
2. Remove the driver-side lower interior A-pillar cover.
3. Pull the door check seal off the door check hinge pivot. See Fig. 2.

NOTICE
When removing the pin from the door check hinge pivot, use care not to damage the ears on the
casting. Hold the door to keep it from swinging out and possibly causing damage to the vehicle or the
door.
4. Remove the pin from the door check hinge pivot. Ensure that the door does not swing out when the pin is
removed.
5. While holding the door check with your free hand to keep it from falling inside the A-pillar, remove and discard the two mounting screws that attach the door check to the cab.
6. Reach through the interior A-pillar opening and remove the door check assembly.
7. Inspect the door check assembly for damage. If the retaining pin on the cab side is bent or pulled into the
rubber bumper (Fig. 3), replace the door check assembly.

8. Grind the door check mounting area down to bare metal. See Fig. 4.
9. Using a drill and a 1/8-inch (3-mm) drill bit, drill holes at each end the crack to prevent the crack from
extending.
10. Apply urethane adhesive to the bare metal. See Fig. 5.
11. Insert the door check assembly through the interior A-pillar opening. Secure it so it will stay in place without
falling inside the A-pillar.
12. Position the door jamb patch plate on the door frame. The side with the sharper curve should be facing outboard, with the edge facing forward. On the top and bottom edges, the longer segment should be on the
inboard side of the plate. See Fig. 6.
13. Using two screws (23-12277-150), secure the plate, door frame, and door check assembly together. See
Fig. 7.
14. Install the door check seal.
15. Install the lower interior A-pillar cover.
16. Paint and finish the door jamb patch plate and surrounding area as needed.

17. Using the pin, connect the door check to the door.
