MY BMW X3 HAS HAD ITS ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS SHEARED OFF. THERE ARE NO INDICATIONS OF THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE HAVING BEEN HIT BY ANY OBJECTS. THE VEHICLE'S MILEAGE IS IN THE LOW 90,000 MILE RANGE. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM HAPPENING TO MANY BMW X3'S, AT LOW MILEAGE. THEY ALSO CLAIM THAT THE BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT BOLTS, COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE BMW SERVICE MANAGER, I TALKED TO, INDICATED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT WAS NOT AWARE HOW WIDE SPREAD THE PROBLEM IS. HIS GUESS OF WHY THIS MAY BE HAPPENING IS DUE TO DIFFERENT THERMAL EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF THE 3 DIFFERENT METALS INVOLVED IN THE MOUNTING SYSTEM. THE WAY I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE ENGINE OIL DRAIN PLUG WAS MISALIGNED WITH A PROTECTIVE SHROUD. I HAVE BEEN OCCASIONALLY NOTICING A THUMP COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I HAD MY BALL JOINTS AND FRONT-END CHECKED OUT ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. I SUSPECT NOW, THAT THE THUMP SOUND IS DUE TO THE SHEARED ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS. IF THAT'S INDEED THE CASE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VECHILE WITH THE ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS SHEARED OFF FOR ABOUT 1-1/2 YEARS, UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE NOT EASILY INSPECTABLE, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY THE MECHANIC THAT CHECKED OUT MY FRONT END SUSPENSION DIDN'T CHECK THE ENGINE MOUNTS AT THAT TIME.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE UNIT WAS NOT CLEANED AFTER MANUFACTURING AND THE LAYER OF PLASTIC PIECES THAT HAD FALLEN ON TOP OF THE HEATER MELTED AND CAUSED LITERALLY THE ENTIRE UNIT TO FILL WITH SMOKE. (WE HAD TO REMOVE THE FRONT COVER TO ACCESS THE HEATER WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING.) I HAD TURNED THE HEATER ON LESS THAN A MINUTE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, TAKEN OUR DOG OUT TO POTTY AND RAN BACK AS SOON AS THE FIRE ALARMS BEGAN GOING OFF. IT TOOK 4 ADULTS TO CLEAR THE UNIT AND BEGIN TROUBLE SHOOTING WHERE THE PROBLEM CAME FROM. IF I HAD NOT BEEN CLOSE TO THE UNIT, MY CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT FROM THE INCIDENT. MY EXPECTATION FROM PURCHASING A NEW UNIT IS THAT IT IS READY FOR USE AND THE PROPER SAFETY MEASURE ARE TAKEN TO ENSURE THE UNIT IS FREE FROM HARM CAUSED DURING MANUFACTURING BEFORE DELIVERY.

THE DRIVER-SIDE INTERIOR DOOR LATCH STOP WORKING AND I COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE CAR! THIS MALFUNCTION HAPPENED IN A VERY MUNDANE MANNER. AS I WAS DOING REGULAR ERRANDS, IN AND OUT OF THE CAR ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 2016, ON MY THIRD ERRAND STOP, THE DOOR LATCH BROKE. I REALLY DIDN'T NOTICE A "SNAP" OR ANY KIND OF "BREAKING SOUND." I DON'T KNOW IF THE BREAK OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING OR NOT. I WAS STOPPED/PARKED IN SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT WHEN I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM. AT FIRST I PANICKED AND WAS QUITE AFRAID. I CALLED MY BOYFRIEND AND HE CALMED ME DOWN AND INSTRUCTED ME ON HOW TO SIMPLY ROLL DOWN (ELECTRIC) WINDOW AND REACH OUT AND THEN OPEN DOOR FROM EXTERIOR. THEN, HE TOLD ME TO ROLL WINDOW UP BY LEAVING IGNITION ON AND. THIS WORKED. SO I BEEN USING MY CAR LIKE THIS UNTIL I COULD GET IT FIXED. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND LEARNED OF THE THOUSANDS OF DOOR LATCH RECALLS ON OTHER FORD FUSION MODELS. WHEN I CALLED FORD THEY SAID MY MODEL YEAR, 2010, IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I WILL ONLY HAVE TO PAY $100 DEDUCTIBLE BECAUSE REPAIR IS COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING SINCE FORD KNOWS THEY ARE HAVING VARIOUS DOOR LATCH MSL FUNCTIONS. THIS IS MY COMPLAINT. I CLOSE BY SAYING THAT I HAVE REALLY LOVED MY FORD FUSION HYBRID AND CONSIDERING GETTING NEWER OR NEW MODEL.
