MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE HAS OVERHEATED SOMETIME IN THE FALL OF 2019, DUE TO A LEAK IN THE COOLANT TANK, UNEXPECTEDLY SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING ON A SMALL TOWN ROAD AT 40 MI/HR WITH CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. I PAID FORD $600 TO REPLACE THE TANK. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2020, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AGAIN, SUDDENLY SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING 55 MI/HR ON A BUSY ROAD. I HAD CHILDREN IN THE CAR, WHEN THE ERROR OCCURRED AGAIN.THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED NO SIGN OF OVERHEATING IN EITHER OCCURRENCE. THE ONLY MESSAGE I RECEIVED FROM THE DASH WAS "POWER REDUCED TO COOL ENGINE" ABOUT 3 SECONDS BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. SMOKE APPEARED FROM UNDER THE HOOD IN BOTH INSTANCES. THE SECOND TIME AROUND, I ATTEMPTED TO REFILL THE COOLANT, WHICH LEAKED OUT ONTO THE GROUND. HOWEVER, THIS TIME THE LEAK DIDN'T APPEAR TO COME FROM THE COOLANT TANK, BUT RATHER THE ENGINE ITSELF. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND IT TURNS OUT, MANY OF THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CARS HAVE BEEN CATCHING ON FIRE AND/OR PRODUCING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR IT, BUT FORD TOLD ME THAT BASED ON MY VIN, MY CAR DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. THEY ASKED ME PAY $3,000 REPLACE A BLOWN GASKET THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE SYSTEM OVER HEATING. OBVIOUSLY, THESE EXPENSIVE PARTS CONTINUE TO BREAK DUE TO A FAULTY ENGINE. YET, INSTEAD OF FIXING THE ROOT CAUSE, FORD MILKS ITS CUSTOMERS FOR HUNDREDS, EVEN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF REPAIRS, KNOWING THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO SHUT OFF AND CAUSE FINANCIAL, EVENTUALLY PHYSICAL HARM TO PEOPLE. STABILTRAK ABS TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ALL COME ON VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND POWER IS REDUCED. RESEARCHED AND FOUND 100'S OF REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE IMPALA AND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN THE LIGHT TRUCK AND SUV MODELS. FIX IS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE IF YOUR MECHANICALLY / ELECTRICALLY INCLINED AS INVOLVES SPLICING IN A NEW WIRE HARNESS FOR THE ABS SENSOR. SAID HARNESS IS ABOUT $20 IT SHORTS OUT DUE TO INSUFFICIENT GAUGE OF WIRE USED ON ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALL. REPLACE HARNESS HAS MUCH STURDIER GAUGE FROM WHAT MY RESEARCH SAYS. REPAIR SHOP QUOTED $700 TO REPAIR GLAD I TOLD THEM TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. THEY HAVE A FLEET OF IMPALAS AS LOANERS SO THEY KNOW THEY ARE GOUGING PEOPLE WHEN THEY SAY REPLACE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY ABS SENSOR AND WIRING HARNESS WHEN THEY KNOW IT'S THE ABS SENSOR PERIOD. CHEVY NEEDS TO DO A RECALL. ISSUE HAPPENS WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION AFTER TURNING OR GOING OVER A BUMP WIRING THAT HAS BEEN WORE THRU DUE TO PLACEMENT OF WIRING IN A HIGH FRICTION AREA, WIRE WEARS THROUGH COATING EXPOSES WIRING THAT SHORTS OUT AND SENDS CODES TO COMPUTER CONCERNING ABS STABILTRAK AND TRACTION ASSIST CAUSES VEHICLE TO BEHAVE ERRATICALLY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED CAUSED VEHICLE TO STALL AND NOT RESTART UNTIL PROBLEM CORRECTED. I'M SURE THEY ARE GOUGED FOR A THOUSAND $ OR MORE. I HAVE TO USE THE 7 SPEED MANUAL TO ENSURE SAFETY PULLING OUT INTO CROSS TRAFFIC, THE RESULTS COULD BE DEADLY. THE CAR HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN SEVERAL TIMES, BUT ROUTE 60 HYUNDAI, VERO BEACH IS RUDE! GETTING A LOANER FOR THIS RECALL WAS HORRIFIC THE 1ST TIME, AND THEY WOULDN'T GIVE ME A VEHICLE THE 2ND, 3RD OR 4TH TIME. #2 THE DOORS AND WINDOWS, THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR AND THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR, DO NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUT, AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER WINDOW NO LONGER OPERATES, GOD FORBID THERE IS AN ACCIDENT, THERE IS NO ESCAPE. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD 4 RECALLS, 1 BEING THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE GETS SCARIER EVERY DAY, AND I AM DISABLED ALREADY. I DONT WANT TO DIE IN THIS VEHICLE.
