Condition
A customer may comment on hearing wind noise from the driver front door area while
driving above 30 MPH.
Cause
The cause may be a gap between Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique and
the Front Side Door Window Weatherstrip/Glass run channel (as shown below)

Correction
Verify the window run channel is fully seated into the door and adjust the Front Side Door Window Frame Rear
Applique forward to close gap using the following procedure.
1. Remove Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique (example doc ID for Suburban 6748244)
Note: On some models the belt molding is a one time use part which will need to be replaced.

2. Ensure that the Front Side Door Window Weatherstrip is fully seated into the door metal run channel and that the
rear upper molded-in alignment pin is fully seated into the square hole at the rear of the upper door opening (as
shown below.) If the rear upper molded-in alignment pin is not seated in the hole or the weatherstrip is not fully
seated in the channel, it will push the window weatherstrip forward creating a large gap between the weatherstrip
and applique.

If weatherstrip or rear upper molded-in alignment pin is not fully seated, remove and reinstall the window weatherstripReinstall the weatherstrip making sure the rear upper molded-in alignment pin is fully seated in the square hole in
the door and that the weatherstrip is fully seated into the door metal run channel.
To seat the pin correctly, push the molded portion of the seal upward as far as possible, then rearward.

Note: The Front Side Door Window Weatherstrip should not need to be replaced.

3. Remove / cut off the upper locating pin from the top of the Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique, shown
below.

4. Install two pieces of Low-Density closed cell Foam Tape that is 75 mm long, 5 mm thick, and 15 mm wide to the
door as shown.
Note: Do not use a foam that too dense as it will push the applique to far outward.

Locally source the foam tape. Example would be to use 3/16" Camper (Camper Shell / Topper) tape available at
most local auto parts or hardware stores

5. Reinstall the Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique and position as far forward when reinstalling the
upper retainer bolt. The gap between the Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique and the Front Side Door
Window Weatherstrip/Glass run channel should now be closed (0 - .009 inches / 0.0 - 0.25 mm) and a dollar bill
should not fit between the Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique and the Front Side Door Window Weatherstrip/Glass run channel .
If there is still a gap between the Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique and the Front Side Door Window
Weatherstrip/Glass run channel inspect the bolt passthrough hole in the door for the Front Side Door Window Frame
Rear Applique to see if the screw is cutting threads into the sheet metal. If so, the hole will need to be enlarged to
allow the Front Side Door Window Frame Rear Applique to be pushed further forward to close the gap. Follow
published Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (example Document ID: 2096919) to treat the bare sheet metal
caused by elongating the hole.

6. Complete reassembly and test drive.

Locally source the foam tape.
One example would 3/16" Camper (Camper Shell / Topper) Tape available at local auto parts or hardware stores.

Depot.
