FRONT PARKING DISTANCE WARNING (PDW)
SENSOR FALSE DETECTION

Description: Some G70 (IK) vehicles may exhibit a false notification from the front Parking Distance
Warning (PDW) sensors when there is no object nearby. This may occur when the parts housing the
sensor become loose, causing the sensor to falsely detect objects. There is no functional effect on the
vehicle other than the false notification. This bulletin provides the procedure to inspect the vehicle and
apply repair(s) as needed.

Cluster Notif ication Check & Applicable Procedure

Check for the following Parking Distance
Warning (PDW) notifications on the instrument
cluster:
•

A: Red PDW sensor warning (with NO
object or obstruction present).

•

B: “Parking sensor error or blockage”
message.

If either notification is present, proceed to
step 2.
2.

Clean all 8 PDW sensors (C) and ensure NO
debris or other contaminants are on/around
the sensors.
•

If a PDW notification is NO longer
present on the cluster, the service
procedure is now complete.

•

If a PDW notification remains on the
cluster, proceed to step 3.

Use GDS to perform Fault Code Searching
for DTCs.
•

If NO DTCs are present and the red PDW
sensor warning is still displayed on the
cluster (with no objects or obstructions
nearby):
o Continue to step 4.

•

If one or more of the DTCs listed below are
present and/or the “Parking sensor error
or blockage” message is still displayed on
the cluster:
o Replace the affected PDW sensor(s)
by referring to the shop manual.
The service procedure is now
complete.

DIGITAL
DOCUMENTATION

Using the STUI camera function, take a
photo of the original grille assembly, end
piece, and holder (LH, RH, or both).
Upload the photo to STUI.
NOTE: If the STUI camera function is
NOT used, write the last 6 digits of the
VIN and date of repair on a piece of
paper to include in the photo.
7.

Reuse the existing screw and use the
additional 2 screws in the new parts.

Information

If necessary, a new screw can be ordered
(P/N 12493-05167E) to replace the
existing screw.
8.

Reinstall all parts in the reverse order of the
removal process.

9.

Confirm the Parking Distance Warning (PDW)
sensors function normally and do NOT exhibit
a red PDW sensor warning when no object or
obstruction is present.

10.

The service procedure is now complete.
