SITUATION
The center console and front cup holder get noticeably too warm to the touch on long journeys with the
interior "Heating on".

CAUSE
The air ducts may not be properly connected, this allows heated air to leak out in this area.
The foam material that seals between the ducts may be out of position, not held by the mounting adhesive
and squashed allowing for an air leak. This leak can occur at any of these 6 junction locations:

CORRECTION
1-Check foam seal material at duct connections and replace foam as needed. Ensure ducts are properly
overlapped on installation.
2-Replace rear air ducts.

Notes: Customer should be made aware that:
- sealing these ducts will improve the center console heating issue but may impact acoustics
of rear HVAC
- overheating of storage box is most prevalent if rear ducts are closed while heat is running

PROCEDURE
If the center console and front cup holder get noticeably too warm to the touch during long journeys with the
interior heating on:
1. Check whether the air ducts beneath the center console are properly assembled. They should overlap

when installed.
If one or more air ducts are not properly mounted or connected, disassemble these and install them
correctly. Observe point 2 when installing!

2. Check if the foam material to the next connecting piece is correctly installed. If damaged install a
locally sourced, one side self-adhesive
HVAC foam. (The foam seal comes assembled on new parts and is not available separately in the
BMW parts system).
3. For vehicles with option S4NBA (automatic climate control with 4 zone control), Optional G05,
100% Option G07
Vehicles that utilize these fleece material lined ducts can be visually identified by their having a
second blower motor located in the center console, and the addition of B pillar vents.
To improve interior acoustic levels and circulate some air into the console, the rear air ducts with part
number 51 16 9 399 775 (left side) and 51 16 9 399 776 (right side) are utilized on the G07 and
optionally on the G05. These ducts have a hole that is covered in fleece material.
To maximize heat reduction within in the center console, the rear air ducts with part number 51
16 9 399 775 (left) and 51 16 9 399 776 (right) must be replaced in all cases with base model rear
air ducts with part number 51 16 6 833 469 (left) and 51 16 6 833 470 (right).
NOTE: By installing the base model rear air ducts with part number 51 16 6 833 469 (left side) and
51 19 6 833 470 (right side) these fleece cutouts are removed maximizing the heat reduction in the
center console. The base ducts may impact acoustics of rear HVAC.

Note: According to the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue), the part numbers 51 16 6 833 469 and 51 19 6
833 470 are only specified for the G05/G06, but they also can be installed in the G07.
Additionally, other small parts that are not specified above, such as one-time screws, nuts and seals, which
must be replaced according to the ISTA repair instructions/ETK, must be selected from the Electronic Parts
Catalogue according to the respective vehicle type and invoiced under the corresponding repair defect code
