417 – Rear Electric Window Shades

SITUATION
There are two possible situations (rear left, right or both sides):

A. The electric sunshade in the rear door does not function or sticks upon operation, and/or
B. The electric sunshade is wavy.

CAUSE
A. Sunshade does not function, a cable related concern
B. Sunshade material issue

CORRECTION
There are three possible corrections after reviewing the sunshade:

A. If there is no damage to the cable, rework the cable back into the channel (Picture documentation
IS NOT required).
B. Replace the sunshade if there is damage to the cable (Picture documentation IS required).
C. Replace the sunshade when the sunshade material is wavy (Picture documentation IS required,
see attachment for examples).
Note: Any other damage found to the sunshade outside this Bulletin, an “Info Only” case should be
submitted.
Using the WarrantyApp, the required minimum photo documentation should include images as specified in
the “Correction,” specifically, a damaged cable or wavy material on the affected door(s) of the vehicle.
To ensure the condition of the Rear Door sunshade(s) is documented, it is essential to provide photos of the
damage to the vehicle's VIN by reporting it through the WarrantyApp under the following PD category:

PROCEDURE
Sunshade does not function:
1. Remove the sunshade from vehicle following the repair instructions listed in ISTA/AIR (51 16 405).

2. Inspect the sunshade cable for any damage.
If there is no damage to the cable, continue to step 3
If there is damage to the cable, the sunshade needs to be replaced (see attachment for
examples)
3. Rework the cable to the channel as shown in the attachment.
4. Reinstall the sunshade and verify the repair.

number in either ETK or AIR which considers specific equipment and/or options.

use screws, nuts, and seals, which must be replaced or installed (according to the ISTA repair

Group resources according to the respective vehicle type. Invoiced these items separately under the Repair
Code listed in this bulletin.
