WHITE PAINT WARRANTY EXTENSION (Z05)

This TSB supersedes 25-BD-004H to update with the following items:
• Plastic body panels are NOT covered under the warranty extension and should NOT be
repainted under any circumstances (blending of plastic body panels is NOT allowed)
• Additional information about exterior paint composition and paint peeling and bubbling
• Additional example photos of covered and NOT covered paint conditions
• Digital documentation requirements.
Description: Certain Hyundai vehicles with exterior white paint may exhibit peeling or bubbling on metal
body panels: hood, fender(s), roof, door(s), quarter panel(s), and tailgate/trunk. The paint warranty
coverage for affected vehicles has been extended to 10 years/unlimited miles from the date of original
retail delivery or date of first use and is valid for original and subsequent owners.
The warranty extension does not apply to any vehicle that has ever been declared a total loss or sold
for salvage by a financial institution or insurer or has a branded or similar title under any state’s law.

NOTE 1: Submit one (1) claim in the ‘Warranty Claim Entry Screen’ using the published LTS paint
labor operations for the affected panel(s)/area(s).
When submitting the claim, please ensure that any of the following 3 keywords are included in the
‘3C’s or Comments’ sections: Z05, White, or Paint Extension.
Include operation code SUBLTR0F for 0.3 M/H along with an additional $100 sublet for
administrative support related to paint repair coordination (e.g., coordination with the paint shop for
setup/sublet, paperwork and invoicing completion, and rental car coordination for the customer). This
sublet allowance applies to Dealers only; body shops are not eligible to claim this sublet fee.
Please note that paint matching and blending are covered only for metal body panels. Plastic body
panels should NOT be repainted for paint matching and blending.
Use sublet type “P1” for the paint claim.
NOTE 2: This TSB includes repair justification photos. Op times include VIN, mileage, and repair
justification photos as outlined in the Digital Documentation Policy.
NOTE 3: If a rental is needed, use the same repair order as the Warranty claim and submit as a
separate claim with the same causal part number of the affected body panel.
NOTE 4: When performing paint repairs according to this TSB, if you discover a part needing
replacement unrelated to paint repair and is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the
same repair order. For an affected part that is out of warranty and unrelated to the paint repair, submit
a Prior Approval (PA) request for goodwill consideration before doing any work.
If a part requires replacement and is related to the paint repair, include it in the paint claim as a single
claim; do not submit it separately. In the case that exterior trims break during paint repair, please refer
to the Paint Best Practices QRG regarding parts that break while repairing defective paint.
NOTE 5: Standard Warranty Policy & Procedures apply.
NOTE 6: If the vehicle is outside the warranty term but exhibits the paint defect identified in this TSB,
please submit a PA request for goodwill consideration prior to scheduling or performing any repairs.
NOTE 7: If windshield or rear glass removal is required due to the location of paint peeling and
replacement is necessary as a result of unavoidable damage, the replacement glass must be an OEM
part and included on the same paint warranty claim. If an OEM part is unavailable, reference the Paint
Best Practices QRG for more information. Claim comments must document the reason for
replacement, and a photo of the damaged glass showing the VIN and repair date must be attached.
Glass with pre-existing damage (e.g., cracks or chips) is not warrantable; replacement in these cases
is the customer’s responsibility and must be authorized prior to repair or scheduling.

beyond dealer's original assessment, it is mandatory that the vendor take pictures of the
additional panel(s) exhibiting peeling or bubbling so the dealer can include them as part of its
claim submission.

Peeling and/or bubbling of the white paint commonly occurs on the metal body panels: hood,
fender(s), roof, door(s), quarter panel(s), and tailgate/trunk.

Plastic body panels (bumpers, side moldings, fender/quarter panel garnishes, rocker panels,
door handles, side mirrors, etc.) are NOT affected by this issue. They should NOT be repainted
for color matching or blending.
Paint issues that do NOT match these conditions (e.g. rock chips, scratches, physical damage
and outside influence) are NOT covered under this warranty extension.

Exterior Paint Composition Information

Information

Most automotive paints consist of 4 layers
1. Clear coat
2. Base paint
3. Primer
4. Electrodeposition coat (e-coat)

Paint peeling is caused by excessive amounts of ultraviolet (UV) rays penetrating through the
clear coat and base paint and into primer. The primer loses adhesion to the e-coat from the
excessive exposure to UV rays, which causes the upper paint layers to peel and flake off.
Paint peeling is normally identified by the tan/olive color of the exposed e-coat. Paint peeling
can also be identified by the gray color of the exposed metal body panel(s) if the e-coat is
deteriorated from prolonged periods (years) of direct exposure to UV rays with missing layers of
clear coat, base paint, and primer.
Paint blistering or bubbling occurs when the primer has delaminated from the e-coat, but the
upper paint layers remain intact.
Paint chipping is often caused by external damage to the paint and is NOT covered under this
warranty extension. This kind of external damage is normally small in size (less than 1/2”
diameter) and can sometimes be identified by a “crater” around the damaged area with NO
visible blistering or bubbling. Paint chipping is commonly found, but not limited to, these areas on
the vehicle:

Leading edge of the hood panel and roof panel from rocks/road debris
Bottom of the door panels from rocks/road debris
Edges of door panels from passengers entering/exiting and opening doors into objects
Edges of trunk and tailgate panels from loading/unloading cargo

each affected panel(s)/area(s) that
exhibits peeling and/or bubbling. Also
photograph the vehicle from the left
side, right side, hood, roof, front and
rear from 8-10 feet away to document
the general vehicle condition.
It is recommended to circle the

Sublet the vehicle to a body/paint shop.

Refer to Hyundai Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual > Section 6.5 > Sublet
Repair Record Requirements” when sublet repairs are performed by a body/paint shop to
refinish the affected area(s).

Only repaint the affected area(s). The surrounding metal body panel(s) should only be
repainted for proper color matching and/or blending if the peeling or bubbling is at the edge
between two adjacent metal body panels.
Plastic body panels (bumpers, side moldings, fender/quarter panel garnishes, rocker
panels, door handles, side mirrors, etc.) should NOT be repainted under any
circumstances.
