Leaks on lower side of transmission
Information
If oil has leaked into the ATF pan, proceed as follows in case there is a complaint:
•
Check secure install of accessible screw connections on the ATF pan with the specified tightening
torque and tighten them correctly if necessary.
•
Clean the ATF pan area absolutely thoroughly, as oil leaking in under the ATF pan seal can lead to misinterpretation.
•
An oily ATF pan can also be caused by oil migrating from the oil line screw connection. In the rarest of
cases, the oil pan seal is the cause.
•
The oil pan is very often diagnosed as leaking, because oil collects in the joint between the oil pan and
the sealing surface due to capillary action (particularly at threading).
Information
If the oil leakage has spread so much that the oil pan is also oily, as shown, proceed as follows in case there is
a complaint:
•
Ensure that the accessible oil pan screws are tightened to the specified torque; tighten them, if
necessary.
•
Before carrying out any further work, the entire transmission must be thoroughly cleaned in the areas of
oil leakages/oil contamination and sprayed with SpotCheck.
•
Clean the transmission oil pan area absolutely thoroughly. An oil pan seal leak can lead to misinterpretation. Thereafter, perform a test drive.
•
After the test drive, review the transmission for oil leakages below.
