Engine Warning Light Illumination with DTC P0DAB
CONDITION OF CONCERN
On certain subject vehicles, the engine warning light may illuminate, and the vehicle may be limited
to engine-only operation due to activation of the fail-safe mode. Motor assist, i-stop and motor
regenerative functions may be disabled, although the vehicle is safe to drive. The DTC P0DAB (Cell
voltage variation malfunction) may be stored.
Causal factor: Improper software in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and - MHB in MDARS
display - BECM (Battery Energy Control Module).

OUTLINE OF REPAIR
Reprogram the PCM and MHB with the Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS), using
Mazda Diagnostic And Repair Software (MDARS).
Note: The TCM may or may not be reprogrammed, please see below for the claim type
depending on whether the TCM was programmed or not programmed. All 2026MY
vehicles do not require TCM programming. Older vehicles especially with recent software
or campaign updates will already have the TCM at the latest software version and will not
be programmed.

WARRANTY CLAIM PROCESSING INFORMATION
- Ask technician if TCM was reprogrammed (requires initial learning) or not. Then submit based
on the result. MDARS sessions record TCM reprogramming and will be checked for accuracy.
- This repair will be covered under Mazda’s Powertrain Limited Warranty.
- Additional diagnostic time cannot be claimed for this repair.
- Warranty pre-authorization is required if the vehicle is outside the Mazda’s Powertrain Limited
Warranty.

Vehicles under 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain warranty (NVLW): All repairs in MSP66 will be
covered under Mazda's New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Vehicles outside the 5 year/60,000 mile warranty: If the vehicle is outside the 5 year/60,000 mile
warranty please perform the repair following repair procedures and then “G-submit for
authorization” on your claim and explain the vehicle is out of NVLW by time or miles. If the vehicle
cannot be repaired due to damage or modification including “what is not covered” in the Mazda
Warranty Booklet, then advise the customer they will need to pay for repairs to bring the vehicle
back to stock condition prior to repairing MSP66.

Additional diagnostic time cannot be claimed for this repair unless pre-approved by warranty
preauth.
