This bulletin supersedes the previously issued bulletin(s) listed below. The changes are noted in Red. 01-008/23 06/05/23 Some vehicles may exhibit rattling noises from the engine compartment and oil leakage from the drive belt auto tensioner. This may be caused by insufficient sealing at the drive belt auto tensioner damper when the auto tensioner fully operates under both high ambient temperature and high load conditions. To eliminate this concern, the shape of the drive belt auto tensioner damper has been changed. REPAIR PROCEDURE If the tensioner is found to be "No Good" after completing the Drive Belt Auto Tensioner Inspection, replace it with a modified part according to the instructions on MGSS online:

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit rattling noises from the engine compartment and oil leakage from the drive belt auto
tensioner. This may be caused by insufficient sealing at the drive belt auto tensioner damper when the auto tensioner
fully operates under both high ambient temperature and high load conditions.
To eliminate this concern, the shape of the drive belt auto tensioner damper has been changed.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the customer concern.

2. Check the drive belt auto tensioner part number according to the GEPC.
Is the part number PE01-15-980, or PE03-15-980B or earlier?
- If No, this service bulletin is not applicable to the subject vehicle. Proceed to the appropriate Workshop Manual (via
MGSS) for instructions.
- If Yes, proceed with drive belt auto tensioner - visual inspection.
Drive Belt Auto Tensioner - Visual Inspection:
Drive Belt Auto Tensioner May Be "GOOD" If:
Drive Belt Auto Tensioner May Be "NO GOOD" If:
• There is no rattle noise heard from the engine
compartment / tensioner area.
• Normal dirt accumulation is mistaken as an oil
leak.
• Normal dirt accumulation is only found on the front
side of the tensioner.
• The rear side of the tensioner is mostly clean from
dirt accumulation.
• The tensioner passes the Workshop Manual
inspection.
• Rattle noise is heard from the engine compartment
due to a lack of tensioner oil.
• The tensioner appears wet/oily.
• The surrounding tensioner area (alternator, etc.) is
not wet/oily.
• Oil comes out of the top of the tensioner.
• Oil is found all the way around the tensioner (front &
rear).
• The tensioner fails the Workshop Manual inspection.
3. Refer to the images below to visually inspect the drive belt auto tensioner condition.

4. Complete the Drive Belt Auto Tensioner Inspection according to MGSS online: DRIVE BELT AUTO TENSIONER
INSPECTION.
- If the tensioner is found to be "Good" after completing the Drive Belt Auto Tensioner Inspection, do not replace the
tensioner.
- If the tensioner is found to be "No Good" after completing the Drive Belt Auto Tensioner Inspection, replace it with a
modified part according to the instructions on MGSS online:

5. Take photo(s) of replaced tensioner for any tensioner TSB, Warranty or goodwill claim purposes.
NOTE: Photo(s) are required to be attached to the claim, otherwise, the Warranty or goodwill claim will be denied.
Ensure the RO is in frame of the photo taken.
6. Verify the repair.
