General Information
Some Gen 5 DD13 turbocharger oil return lines crack, causing an oil leak. Engineering is requesting
additional steps to repair the lines and the return of replaced parts to help understand the root cause of
these failures. If repaired, please return the parts directly to Detroit Diesel. This process is only to be

performed on engines built after December 2024. Only proceed when the customer approves of the
additional repair time that may occur.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Please return the cracked return line, the turbo mounting bracket, support bracket, and all associated
bolts. See instructions below

1. With a paint marker, number the six bolts for the turbo mounting brackets, as shown in the below diagram when applicable.

2. Remove the turbo mounting bracket and support bracket. See Removal of the Turbocharger in the DD13 Gen 5 Workshop Manual

(DDC-SVC-MAN-0213).

« Note: Due to clearance, bolt #4 needs to be removed with a wrench and

torqued with a crowfoot socket.

3. When removing the bolts, note the break-away torque in N-m and document the values in the boxes in the bracket depicted in
the figure ‘Parts That Need to be Returned’.

Example for reference only:

Bolts 1, 2, 3, 4 torque = 30 N-m.

Bolts 5, 6 Torque = 60 N-m.

4. If the torque is too low and no reading was measured, put an ‘L’ in the box.
5. If the bolt is missing, put an ‘M’ in the box.
6. Return the completed document with the parts.

7. Install the Turbocharger Mounting Bracket. See |nstallation of the Turbocharger Mounting Bracket in the DD13 Gen 5 Workshop

Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0213).

8. Install the Turbocharger Oil Retum Line. See Installation of the Turbocharger Oil Return Line in the DD13 Gen 5 Workshop Manual

(DDC-SVC-MAN-0213).
9. Once the repair is completed, please return all requested parts directly to Detroit Diesel.
