SITUATION
“Popping” noise from the front axle when cornering and driving on uneven road surfaces. The noise can be
reproduced in the workshop by bouncing the vehicle, see attached video V31 05 26 Auxiliary damper noise.

CAUSE
The spring strut gaiter hooks onto the discshaped pressure stop cap (circled) and the
popping is reproduced when releasing back
into position.

CORRECTION
Replace the affected spring strut.

PROCEDURE
Push up the spring strut gaiter and check
whether the guide sleeve is installed as
shown.

If the guide sleeve is not installed, the
affected spring strut is to be replaced as per
REP 31 31 031.
