General Motors is releasing Service Update N262547670 today. The total
number of U.S. vehicles involved is 35.
What Should Dealers Do: Dealers should review IVH, or the Dealer Maxis reports
for open VINs in their inventory. Dealers can view the attached bulletin, and it
will also be displayed in Service Information tomorrow.
The Stock VIN list of vehicles in dealer inventory or in-transit is attached to this
message. Note: this list is only accurate at the time of report creation and all
VINs should be validated in IVH prior to repair.
The Inventory tab of the Open Vehicle Report will contain Service Update Bulletin
VINs that apply to this field action. This information is intended to assist dealers
with the PROMPT COMPLETION of these vehicles. The Customer In-Service
tab will not contain Service Update Bulletin VIN data because the intent of a
Service Update Bulletin is to not inconvenience a customer with a special trip for
service. Service Update Bulletins are to be completed when the customer is in
for a regularly scheduled visit.

rear outboard side of the roof ditch and exterior cab door ring.
Dealers will inspect the rear outboard roof ditch area of the cab door ring and the exterior cab door ring,
and weld and seal any identified splits as necessary.

1.

Remove the Driver’s Side Roof Panel Joint Finish Molding. Refer to Roof Panel Joint Finish Molding Replacement
in SI.

Using a bright light, visually inspect the rear portion of the roof ditch near the spoiler for a split in the sheet metal as
shown above.
•

If no split is found, install the Driver’s Side Roof Panel Joint Finish Molding. Refer to Roof Panel Joint
Finish Molding Replacement in SI. Then proceed to step 10.

•

If a split is found, remove the Roof Rear Spoiler. Refer to Roof Rear Spoiler Replacement in SI.
i. Position a welding blanket between the upper rear corner of the cab where the split is and the
headliner, being careful not to buckle or crease the headliner.

Remove the factory-applied seam sealer from the repair area.

Drill an 1/8 hole at each end of the split to stop the crack from spreading.

Prepare the surface area for welding as necessary.
Warning: To avoid personal injury when exposed to welding flashes or to galvanized (Zinc Oxide) metal toxic fumes
while grinding/cutting on any type of metal or sheet molded compound, you must work in a properly ventilated area,
wearing an approved respirator, eye protection, earplugs, welding gloves, and protective clothing. In addition, when
grinding aluminum components, always use an extraction system to remove high dust concentration due to risk of
explosion. Use weld blankets to protect High Voltage Battery Case, High Voltage Cables and Components, Fuel
Tank, Fuel Lines, Brake Lines, and any areas that may be harmed by sparks from grinding and welding.

Grind and finish welds to achieve a smooth, uniform surface without porosity or sharp edges.

Apply Primer to all exposed metal surfaces to provide corrosion protection prior to sealing. Refer to Anti-Corrosion
Treatment and Repair in SI for an approved list of materials

Seal the area using Seam Sealer. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in SI for an approved list of materials

10. Open the driver’s side rear door.

11. Using a bright light, visually inspect the top of the driver’s side rear door jamb for a split in the sheet metal as shown
above.
•

If no split is found, then proceed to step 22.

•

If a split is found, proceed to step 12.

12. Remove the Driver’s Side Front and Rear Row Roof Rail Airbag. Refer to Front and Rear Row Roof Rail Airbag
Replacement in SI.
13. Inspect the Headlining Roof Panel for any signs of water damage or intrusion. Repair or replace as necessary.
14. Cover all interior surfaces with weld blankets for protection against weld spatter.
15. Using an 1/8th inch drill bit, drill a hole at each end of the crack from the outside of the vehicle. This will stop the
crack from spreading.
Note: After the surface is prepped for paint, ensure a zinc-rich primer is used to coat the surface prior to painting.

16. Prepare the area for welding as necessary.

explosion. Use weld blankets to protect High Voltage Battery Case, High Voltage Cables and Components, Fuel
Tank, Fuel Lines, Brake Lines, and any areas that may be harmed by sparks from grinding and welding.
Caution: If the seam split is too large, it may be necessary to use a piece of filler wire held in the seam
prior to welding to ensure a hole is not blown in the metal.
17. Weld the seam shut.
18. Grind and finish welds to achieve a smooth, uniform surface without porosity or sharp edges. Apply a primer to any
exposed metal areas. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in SI for an approved list of materials
19. Prepare the repair areas for paint as necessary.
20. Paint the repaired areas by blending the base coat.
Caution: DO NOT blend the clear coat.
21. Clear coat the ENTIRE outer roof panel.
22. Reinstall the Driver’s Side Roof Panel Joint Finish Molding. Refer to Roof Panel Joint Finish Molding Replacement
in SI.
23. Reinstall the Driver’s Side Front and Rear Row Roof Rail Airbag, if removed. Refer to Front and Rear Row Roof Rail
Airbag Replacement in SI.
Dealer Responsibility
Whenever a vehicle subject to this service update enters your vehicle inventory or is in your facility for service through
the end date as noted in the Attention box, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the service update correction
has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
All new, used, GM Certified Pre-Owned (CPO), courtesy transportation vehicles, dealer shuttle vehicles, CarBravo, etc.
in dealers' possession and subject to this field action must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of
this bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles. Involved vehicles must be held and not delivered to
customers, dealer-traded, released to auction, used for demonstration, or any other purpose.
All GM Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles currently in the dealers’ inventory within the SHIFT Digital system will be
de-certified and must be held and remedied per the service procedure in this bulletin. Upon submitting an accepted/paid
warranty transaction in the Global Warranty Management (GWM) system, the vehicle can be re-certified for sale within
the SHIFT Digital system, or once again be used in the Courtesy Transportation Program.
